Re: Your fleet running reports
That's what it's all about Dave, makin' memories. Nice one Was the gearbox problem an easy fix in the end?
I made a few memories myself today, spent the afternoon at the services waiting for a low loader
Story is the cambelt was done in the morning at a Caterham specialist, the cars electrics went haywire on the M42 on the way back, then a few seconds later the engine stopped and sounded like a bag of bolts...I shutdown and coasted to the sliproad entrance, definitely a part of the journey that concentrated the mind somewhat.
Got picked up from that dangerous position by an extremely nice fellow kit car owner with an empty race shuttle on the back of his van after he delivered a Jensen in the morning. Turned out he had a Vindicator that dropped a valve last week...
...which is what the AA man thinks is wrong with mine, the belt may have jumped some teeth resulting in some bent valves. It wouldn't start whatever he did which is confusing. I have rang the garage that did the work and they're going to collect it back next week to 'put it right'. Hopefully it's something less serious, maybe alternator related.
I'm debating getting it checked over before they have a look at it. There's a kit car specialist the Vindicator guy and several other people have recommended that's in my hometown and I suppose forearmed is forewarned if there's serious damage and there's some debate about the cause.

Appreciated mate, may well give you a ring! Bizarre it won't fire from jump leads if it is just electrical... But it does sound odd turning over.
Re: Your fleet running reports
Can you see the tdc marker on the pulley? When thats lined up with the marks on the plastic cover behind it the two lines on the cam pulleys should line up too - you'll see instantly if the belts jumped.speedingfine wrote: ↑Tue Jul 11, 2023 7:05 pmAppreciated mate, may well give you a ring! Re: Your fleet running reports
Hmm, hard to tell from the pic, but it does look like the exhaust side pulley is closer to horizontal than the inlet one.
Mine slipped a tooth once but ran fine, just down on power and sounded like a blowing exhaust. That was a big standard 1.4 though. I expect a more highly strung one may run badly enough not to run.
Hope it doesn’t end up too nasty.

Apparently it's now forum convention to replace K-Series with K20's. Don't let us down!

Re: Your fleet running reports
That sucks Chris, definitely worth a second opinion, you'll never get the whole story out of the crowd that worked on it. You're welcome to pillage my old K for parts if there's anything worth having!
Re: Your fleet running reports
@speedingfine Oh man, sorry to hear about your car woes
The Porky one is all fixed and running well
It was a gear linkage cable, the old one just went/snapped - it wasn't wear and tear, just "one of those things"
Had the work done by a reasonably local, but very well regarded Porsche specialist
While they had it, I also got them to do their full inspection, a major service, and replaced all the brakes - so it was quite a big bill, but way cheaper than the main dealer would have been
The only niggle now is that one of the exhaust valves has seized/rusted shut - they tried to free it, but couldn't
Unfortunately, you can't replace the valve, you need a new rear silencer which is about £3k
So I'll have to live with that!

Re: Your fleet running reports
That's all fascinating.
But....
One of the highlights of my year so far.

Yep that’s a shitter, hopefully it’s nothing too bad.
The motoring gods have been kind to me as I removed this from my PS4S and it didn’t puncture it

How about not having a sig at all?
Re: Your fleet running reports
As we have decided to keep the Mini for a wee while at least, I put the new red edged mats in. Not a perfect fit but good enough for £13 delivered for 4!
Next job is to do something with the stereo as it is awful.

Re: Your fleet running reports
Have added some spacers to the m3 wagon. 15mm on front (doesn't fix the gap issue obviously, need to look at that next) and 12mm on the back. For those I had to remove the plastic mud guard rim things which always struck me as a last minute design thing for something they missed. Definitely improves the look of the car so will take it for a spin in a bit to see if I notice any difference in the handling.
I guess there's the chance of more stones up the side so I'll see what my PPF guy says as it has to go back in to get the repair done from the first big drive in it which is hopefully going to be next week.

My e92 M3 had c.12mm spacers - it looked a million times better for it.

My x5 has 25mm front and 30mm rear spacers and looks a million times better for it.
Steering feel? What’s that?

Re: Your fleet running reports
Put 20mm spacers on the rear of the 4C and left the fronts the same...was hardly going to make things any worse. Visually it makes all the difference.integrale_evo wrote: ↑Fri Jul 14, 2023 9:21 pm My x5 has 25mm front and 30mm rear spacers and looks a million times better for it.

As Mike says though, sometimes the biggest issue can be stone ships peppering the sides if you're not PPF'd up.
Re: Your fleet running reports
I ordered a new trolley jack when I bought another set of alloys for my wife’s car. I never felt the Halfords 2.5t one I had was terribly strong - it creaked a bit when lifting and didn’t feel as stable as I liked. I’d also managed to break the plastic jacking point covers on my Allroad twice with it despite using the proper Audi insert, and I’d had a worrying moment when it slipped jacking up the Yeti - fortunately without horrific consequences.
Having always wanted a trolley jack with a permanently connected handle, I got this 3t one from SGS for £89.95 delivered. I think that’s pretty good value. It’s not light - the package said 30kg - so wouldn’t be as useful if you wanted to take it on a track day but it’s definitely solidly built and works really nicely.
They do a low-entry version which is about £160, but this is not particularly tall so I couldn’t see the point in paying nearly twice the price.

Interesting, I need a new trolley jack when funds permit. I've got a pretty light one, but it's getting old and it doesn't fill me with confidence even lifting the Lotus.
Re: Your fleet running reports
Just had a look at the choice at SGS. The aluminium jacks have lower capacity than the equivalent steel ones (2.5t vs 3t) and aren’t much lighter - mine is down as 29.5kg and the aluminium one appears to be 26.4kg. Though since the low profile steel 3t one is quoted as 40kg, the weights may not be all that accurate.
