Nah, he just ain't paying the rent. And now he's got eviction orders coming up against him. As well as legal fees and interest.

I'm amazed how quickly Meta followed on from Twitter with the paid-for verification, since the start of June it costs £11.99 to get a blue tick on IG/FB. Which means if I wanted to be verified across all platforms, I'd need to spend £23 a month, and that's before YT or TT decide to introduce paid-for verification too. I'm not convinced that TikTok will do it, they seem to be exploring lots of other avenues first, such as paid-for series and live shopping.

It's amateur hour at Twitter HQ I see. How can a company like Twitter not have a top tier bot management solution in place, covering both their web-app and their apis? Or has Elon not been paying his Twitter bills again?

Can I just check - it’s a good idea to hit the 600 tweet limit (plenty of duplicates due to Twitter being shit now) because it causes Twitter’s servers to keep running to serve up the stuff it won’t let you see?

I think it’s a good idea to log out/open a private browsing session and then try to view twitter as they’ll DDOS themselves.
How about not having a sig at all?

Not being a Twitter user, I can't actually follow along/see what's happening as every request seems to be blocked for me now

Ironically, I'm almost tempted to register, just to watch it fall apart

(Obvs, it's unlikely it will fail, I do wonder if it'll ever recover under Musk)

It reminds me of some old war film where there's a sequence about how to lay booby traps in such a way that the first explosion directs people towards the next booby trap, that one directs them onto a third etc

Twitter seems to be like that at the moment

Each new explosion and reaction, seems to trigger the next, in a never-ending sequence of foot-bullets

I've deactivated my account (what I intended to do a few months ago, when they instead reactivated it from being a permantly suspended account  ), it's a useless service now, so why bother maintaining it?

I haven’t got an account so can’t read anything.

I did set one up years ago but can’t remember the password. It won’t let me reset it with just my email address, they need to know the username too which I’ve forgotten, because years ago. Don’t think I’m missing much.

I'm not going to link to twitter now that people can't see it, so it's a copy & paste, helpfully reducing their traffic for them.

We wanted to understand why Elon Musk’s plan to severely restrict engagement on Twitter makes sense for Twitter’s bottom line. So we talked to three unvaccinated RFK Jr. supporters at a Tesla charging station in Menlo Park.

The thing is that this is mostly my day job at the moment. Advising customers on dealing with bots is literally what pays my bills, so it's a real eye opener to see how badly Musk is dealing with this. It also reinforces my belief that Tesla 'full self driving' will never be complete and certified in a country like the UK.

I read they'd increase the limits now to 10,000 for twitter blue users, 1,000 for legacy users and 500 for new accounts (they had to increase it twice). I'm guessing people were hitting those limits pretty quickly.

Apparently people were speed running getting timed out with new accounts. Took about 2 and a half minutes and most of that was creating the account.

Twitter might not be dead, but it's not looking great. It seems to go from one scuffed decision to another.

What counts as reading? It's a feed so surely you don't read everything that's on your screen at some point.

Limiting how much people can see does seem to be against the core purpose of Twitter. If you don't pay anything to use it, don't think of it as a free service which is being restricted now (as @tim says); you are the product being sold to advertisers. Push people away from the platform and that reduces its appeal to advertisers. Once it's on the downward spiral it would take a miracle to turn it round.
