They are ridiculously spendy! When I lived in north London I got a quote to replace the draughty, wonky, timber box sash bays at the front of our place with new, double glazed ones and tbh I'm still shocked 10 years later. Suffice to say we just turned the heating up

My first car parked outside the barn


Site starting to look a bit less cluttered


First time seeing the main space with a roof and mostly empty. Pleased with how light it is despite most of the windows still being boarded up. Just two skylights and a door size opening letting light in.

Opening to the left is the entrance and a utility, beyond that is the snug. Main space is kitchen / diner / lounge, bedroom block through the door at the far end


Windows finally turned up


Some plaster going on too, pleased they’ve kept a lot of the roof trusses visible. They’re not pretty or ornate, but they’re part of the history of the place.


I know there’s still loads to do but feels like the end is getting closer…

Cheers, it’s nowhere near as grand as most barn conversions, but it still seems massive to me. Wish I’d taken more photos of the overall setting before work started rather than the things in it, but at the time we had to clear everything and hadn’t planned on keeping any of it.

I’m still hopeful one day I’ll be able to drive the fiat there and park it outside its old resting place!

The large window at the front of the black but is a nod to the old garage door.





Really looking forward to the day the fence comes down and opens the site up. Then I can see what space I’ve got for a garage / workshop

I can't recall, but is it being converted for someone specifically or to be sold on once completed?

It’s just going to be for family and friends to enjoy, for get togethers, Christmas etc. Also a handy halfway point between us and the coast, somewhere to go and escape to the country for some peace and quiet at the weekend.

My parents may end up moving there when they get older and start to struggle with stairs. At the moment they’re too involved with too many things closer to home to move out there. It’s about 4 miles to a shop, but that’s not really an issue with online shopping and delivery these days.

Windows ( mostly ) in. Still some trimming on the cladding needed, still some infill panels to come, and no bifolds to the courtyard yet. Still lovely to see when we pulled up for the first time.

Electricity supply now goes directly into the building so the green box will get removed,


I like how the kitchen skylight illuminates the witches bottle which has survived all the building works



Annoyingly the old post support stones were getting buried under general building detritus. We’d already told the site manager that we wanted to keep them so today when we saw they’d been buried further and had plaster etc tipped on them I decided to dig them out and move them away.

They’re nothing particularly ornate, but they’re part of the building and will get used for something at some point!

Finally got the shutters in - a mere four months after ordering then and about 9 months after putting a deposit down for the new windows - anyway - looks finished now!

The house being built next door is almost identical to ours so interesting seeing it go up. Timber frame etc. The devloper let me have a poke around the site but the main thing is how rapidly it all went up. The frame was sorted in about a week and now the brick course around the outside is appearing at a rate of knots.
