Mower update!

John Deere something or other, probably not been used since July/ august last year.

Bloody thing wouldn’t go, would occasionally fire for a second or two then flood. Can only assume it was stale old fuel, drained the carb and let the plug dry out and it fired up. First time I’ve had fuel go off that quickly.

Typically all the local motor factors were closed on a Sunday, I’m sure a dose of easy start would have got it running long enough to pull some less grotty fuel through.

Will brim it with fresh in a week or two when I next use it and see if it starts easier / runs any better.
Cheers, Harry

Of course, on billiard table smooth tarmac which didn’t show up the crashy ride.

It tips from corner to corner instead of letting the air suspension keep a wheel on the ground like a Range Rover does so well.
The traction control is impressive but a lot of the time 1 wheel having traction just isn’t enough. Even without low range the power and torque of the 500engine is more than enough but it’s a 4WD, in no way an off roader.
I'm never going to be offroading, my worst scenario is needing to drag a trailer out of a muddy field, which to be fair doesn't need difflocks, but I just like the idea of having them there for emergencies. DIsco 4 with the TDV8 would tick all my boxes but they never built them.

Compact update - has been delivered to bloke wot does welding stuff and <taps nose> has a good MOT guy. Not that there's anything dodgy about the car, but I've had "conversations" with MOT places before about the seats & harnesses and it'll be nice to not need to do that.

I test drove a TT a few years ago - I think at the time, I hadn't fully committed to the idea of one day owning a 2 seater, and it felt like it might be the best of both worlds

it wasn't

I was very disappointed

As you say, the ride is awful - to the point I wondered how anyone would find it acceptable

Anyway, I ended up thinking it was the worst of both worlds - it didn't feel special, but it did feel very compromised

To the point I came away thinking I may as well aim to one day own a Boxster/Cayman

I considered a Boxster or Cayman to replace it but the adverts I looked at you could clearly see body damage or they MOT histories were very alarming.

So I'm once again back to browsing the "absurdly large" section. An Escalade for just over £10k ? I have form regarding chrome wheels these days

Has yours got touchscreen? This 4 series I’ve got currently has CarPlay and not touchscreen. It’s infuriating.

Make sure you check how to keep your alcantara on the wheel in good condition. With use they start to look crap, but with the right techniques - recover superbly.
APC on a microfibre or open a gel pack of washing powered from your Bosch washing machine 😂

I need to watch some decent youtube videos on this as my alcantara steering wheel is more like a solid chunk of greasy leather now!

yes, I use the centre controller most of the time, but it's far quicker to press the screen for the start button on google maps

I’d say that anything with permanent 4WD then and a reasonable tyre, even all seasons I think would do the job as modern TC is excellent.

My 330e has carplay/android auto with touch screen. Surprised the 4 series doesn't.

6 litres, 5.6m long and ULEZ free. That system is fucked up!

I'd suppose relative rarity means it's not worth including/enforcing. I'm gonna guess there's less than a hundred of any Escalade, in the entire country, at a maximum.

You could probably break that and make your money back if the engine and rear axle are good.

ULEZ isn’t based on engine or car size. Anything petrol with Euro 4 emissions or greater is exempt. A Bentley Brooklands from the same era is exempt, but a diesel Smart Fortwo from 2009 isn’t.

Rather madly, that Escalade is lighter than the lightest INEOS Grenadier

exactly - an Escalade doing 15mpg pumping out almost 500g/mile of co2 is fine, whereas my wife's 320d doing 45mpg with under 200g/mile co2 - BANNED.

Such a daft system. Especially as it's pushing people onto the tube which has horrific levels of air pollution down there!!
