The thing with my work is that it's project based, so I keep telling myself that the next project will be the good one. In truth though fundamentally the structure isn't going to change, the things I'm telling my bosses need doing at their level get ignored so won't change, and the numerous bits of the job that I don't like are not going to go away.

On the other hand, we're more financially secure than we've ever been... and that is good. However, is life too short to spend your days being miserable for a bit more security? Almost certainly.

Last night I had a very vivid dream that I had been chosen to die on Monday and I was spending the remainder of my time running around upset about that fact. I reckon the stuff on this forum this week has really got into my subconscious

There is an awful lot of good sense being spoken in this thread.

Especially about happiness not being a destination - it's what happens when you're on the way somewhere else! Once one has satisfied the basic requirements of food, shelter, safety, a relationship that provides personal validation, and security in all those things, everything else is up for grabs, but none of it is the secret to the "best life" or has any true durability.

In fact, I think I'd go as far as to say that the very concept of a "best life" is just another mechanism for inducing the kind of envy that keeps the consumerist roundabout spinning!

Without wanting to reopen the debate about what "best life" was/is/should be, today was a corker on my scale.

I spent a good chunk of the morning volunteering with the eldest's class (Y5), just listening to them read and ask questions about the books, then pottered about a bit before repeating with the middle one's class (Y2).

I've then cooked and consumed a lovely meal, had some wine, remembered my mum, and now the boys are playing together on the Switch (youngest is asleep), while Counting Crows are on, and things are just great.

Enjoy. It's lovely when you have one of those really nice days and you sit back at the end of it with a smile and think "that was a great day".

Oh no. They're a favourite, moreso of the fairer half, but I've come to appreciate them more and more over the years.

This week started with a nasty health scare (which after finally seeing a consultant ended with nothing), and ended with making a lass 15 years my junior laugh like a drain over a rollup and confirm that she prefers me over the dorks she works with, so I suppose I shouldn't grumble too much.

Her boyfriend would probably find me hilarious too

Oh no. They're a favourite, moreso of the fairer half, but I've come to appreciate them more and more over the years.

I saw them live in the courtyard of Dublin Castle in the mid 90’s.

I fell down the stairs in a slip-on-a-banana-skin style a couple of hours ago. Didn't break owt, feel fine*. I'll take that as a positive.

Good news !

My health scare was sudden weight loss and swollen glands and nodes... after rapid set of scans and tests at Hospital, then a few weeks of head scratching and change of medicine worked out I had developed a reaction to rampiril.
Since then I've developed issues with other groups of blood pressure pills, which is why I have had to move onto beta blockers.

TRT is going really well, I had my bloods done again last week and the results say I’m exactly where I should be.

It’s a game changer, sleep is better, drive is better, energy is better, weight is coming off with no dietary changes, I enjoy hard physical work again and it feels like if the house exploded then I’d palm it off and easily deal with it all.

So, even if you can hang a wet duffel coat off your knob every morning and break your wife’s spirit 3 times a week, still get checked as it’s the best I’ve felt in years.

Was that NHS? I had mine done 18 months ago and it was low average (14.1), which means they said "see ya later". Any ideas if that would be considered low if I went private?
