Managed 15years and 130k out of mine until last year - the repeated lack of use over the lockdowns did for it. I reckon if there'd been no covid/lockdowns it would still be running fine on the original battery tbh.

FAO @integrale_evo - what would you suggest treatment-wise for this rust that's on the E91 tailgate? It's both sides and I gather they did this on the E46 - crappy plastic trims allow gunge to buildup in spite of BMW "designing" in drainage slots behind the trim clips.

I'm going to have a crack at sorting both sides and fancy doing a bit more than just taking the worst off and slapping some kurust on.

Yup, my battery is what, 7 years old now, yet it's pretty fcked from not being used my during Covid. I put the CTEK on it over the weekend to take it to full and yet on the couple of runs since it wasn't 'full' enough for the auto-stop-start to kick in.

And it doesn't hold its charge at all well either.

What's your view of the 360 v 430 as an ownership prospect @IanF? I know the 430 prices are a massive step up which is natural, but are they warranted and worthwhile do you think?
I think, at their current prices, they are both hugely undervalued 😁.. but, honestly, the 430 is much better than the 360, and the 458 is even more better than the 430.

In order of preference, I would (currently) buy F12, 458, manuel 430. 296GTS would probably be no.4 on this list :shock:

Picked up yesterday, quote was £6.5k for chains etc before I got 20% discunt. 12000 miles til next one thank god!

Drove it yesterday before pic up and I’d forgotten how quick it is.. think I may look at tracking it soon. DK called, they have my spare back box in storage and did I want it.. tempted to see what I can do to upgrade it. Coming from BMWs, I think the most limiting factor is the lightness of steering feel, so maybe I just need to explore it more in a controlled environment to see what it can actually do.

Hopefully it will be back before Biscester Scramble; hope to see as many of you guys there as possible

Well the puncture on the motorhome couldn't be repaired as it was right on the edge of the tread, annoying. The cheapest replacement like for like tyre was £233 fitted from Asda Tyres. Time to try and find a lightly used tyre as lots of people fit all seasons or chunky off road tyres and sell their original tyres. After searching ebay and Facebook marketplace I found four 2022 dated tyres that have only covered 200 miles for £250. I can either sell the others or keep them to replace the original tyres when they start to get a bit old, replacement is recommended at seven years depending who you listen to.

It was less fun than I expected but it’s done and the Cayenne has the correct number of windows again.

When I bought the x5 it had hideous wind deflectors fitted. I pulled them off pretty quickly. Unfortunately the RR window hasn’t ever worked so the clips were left stuck in place.

I wasn’t that bothered, just like the e46, regulators are a bit of a weak point. I assumed it had been wedged in place and disconnected.

Finally decided to investigate, and found this creative solution :lol:

It was quite a good ‘fix’ but annoying they took everything so I’ve got no clips / screws or motor to put on a new regulator.

While there I decided to try painting the colour coded door pull insert which I’ve always thought looked horrible. It went well so I did the lot. Much better, and looks better black than the original silver imho.

Not quite sure what to do with the release handle, not sure black or silver would look right, and I don’t think colour coded looks as bad now the pull handle is black. Shame they didn’t ever do chrome ones on the x5


Investigating a slow leak on the screenwash bottle, thought I’d check the filters too.

A regulator is under £20. £33 for one with a motor.

More annoying they’ve hacked the membrane up, why not just slice it neatly around the edges then tape it up after?

My E46 330i Touring was sold with the o/s rear window propped up by a piece of wood - just a log from the hedge next to the drive 😄 But I didn’t remove the broken regulator and sold it with a repair kit.

The buyer said the repair kit was shit and bought a full replacement regulator, he told me a couple of weeks later 😄

I used a jubilee clip around the regulator on the osr window of our e46.

I tried one of the repair kits and nearly smashed the car up in a rage because there was no way on earth I could get the cable back in place. Should have spent £10 more on a full regulator 🤣

Vito has passed its MOT. I still always have THE FEAR every time I put a car in for an MOT.

It got advisories for all four brake discs (corrosion because it's not been used all winter) but otherwise a clean pass. New set of discs & pads ordered - £167 delivered.

IIRC there's a specific order you need to do it in otherwise it won't ever go on. One of the pulleys has a little notch in it to guide the cable on - that's the final step.

I nearly smashed up the Touareg in a rage because I couldn't get the cable on. Turned out the seller had sent me a l/h kit instead of the r/h kit I'd ordered :roll: and the attachment to the sliders ends up in a slightly different place when they're the wrong way round that stops it all linking up.

Sometimes yes. Sometimes no. Prob need to google or ask on a model-specific forum.

Stop/start never worked in my son's 2013 Civic since he picked it up - realised it was a crappy generic-brand non-AGR battery installed. Got a new (correct) one and after a couple of days it started working properly.

@Jobbo Battery Megastore offer a range of 1 option (Yuasa) for my car..... :?
