Get insurance quotes as soon as you know a date - it literally doubles if you do it the same day/day before. Ideal is 3-4 weeks before!
Interested to hear the trade in - what miles has your M2 got?

Re: M3 Touring
Thanks for the tip! I've done a quick comparison site thing as recommended on here and it's looking like about £500 which is fine. I just need to see how much the alloys add to it and to declare PPF as well.Rich B wrote: Sat Mar 04, 2023 10:33 am Get insurance quotes as soon as you know a date - it literally doubles if you do it the same day/day before. M2 is a 2019 car and has just a smidge under 30,000 miles on it. They were saying they don't have any M2s in at the moment so are keen to get one back and prices are strong at the moment. So I await a suitably low-ball offer from them later on today!
Cheers,
Mike.

yeah, mines 2019 too (only 15k miles, but manual with no options) - I'm not looking to change, but it's always interesting to know!Ascender wrote: Sat Mar 04, 2023 10:44 amThanks for the tip! Re: M3 Touring
Manual with low mileage got to be worth a decent figure? I’ll have a look at AT later to see how the market is. I need to check out the options v spec sheet too as I don’t think mine has many added either tbh.
Cheers,
Mike.

Re: M3 Touring
Those alloys are an amazing deal - where did you find them? Since I'm intending to get a second set of OEM alloys for winter tyres for the Macan, I would rather buy a brand new set from a main dealer than an eBay set for a similar price even if I have previously been enthusiastic about the German eBay sellers.

I found them here: https://store.inchcape.co.uk/Jobbo wrote: Sat Mar 04, 2023 11:53 am Those alloys are an amazing deal - where did you find them? That was my thoughts too @Jobbo for a winter set although like someone on here said last year, there’s often a huge selection available via eBay from European sellers at decent prices.

Mike.

Re: M3 Touring
@Matty - Just looking online now, BMW are dragging their heels, so I think I'll get the car valeted and on AT/PH for a couple of weeks at 35K although I need to do a bit more time looking at spec to see what price they are going for.
Cheers,
Mike.

Mike, just catching up on my mentions...my original reply was slightly satirical as you suggested you were going to sell privately, in which I was parroting the endless "wots the lowest youd take m8" you're likely to get....Ascender wrote: Mon Mar 06, 2023 10:11 am @Matty - Just looking online now, BMW are dragging their heels, so I think I'll get the car valeted and on AT/PH for a couple of weeks at 35K although I need to do a bit more time looking at spec to see what price they are going for.

Unless the lowest you'll take is a direct P/X against a 45k mile Up GTi?

I've already been sitting weighing things up this morning - that endless, repetitive dirge of companies trying to get you to sell the car with them and people offering a bag pf peanuts and "interesting trades" v just taking the car back to BMW and handing over the keys, so not even having to wash it!=.
Cheers,
Mike.

Re: M3 Touring
I was going to post a seperate thread about this, but it's on topic...so this'll do.
I've always bought/sold privately, and had very little hassle and pretty much sold to the first viewer. I've probably been incredibly lucky, but they've all just turned up, glanced over it and handed over the cash. I reckon I'm probably £25k better off over the years vs trading in and buying from garages and what's given me the capital to buy my stupid cars that I do.
So heres' the thing. If I said to the average person on the street "I'll pay you £3000 for 3-4 hours work" they'd bite my hand off...most people need to work months to get that kind of free cash. Yet despite that, the majority of people will just p/x at a dealer for convenience, losing out on thousands of pounds.
Makes no sense to me...unless you're palming off an absolute moneypit/nail of a car, and cost to fix outweighs that loss, of course.

On a side note, I would point out that selling an M BMW, AMG Merc or RS Audi would make me consider losing thousands. The endless hand-tattoo, gilet wearing, tracksuit equipped chancers would have me wondering if losing thousands was just worth it.
Selling Alfa's and Lotus's means I've only ever dealt with nerdy types. The only dip into the other world was when I sold the SLK55 - the bloke who turned up in his G55 had the biggest gold chain I've ever seen, and proceeded to drop a large burlap sack from a great height on my dining room table, filled with £17k in new, crisp £20 notes. It was likes something out of Snatch. Thankfully, he was fine with my insisting we counted it at the bank...but even they got suspicious with it. I'm sure I ended up on some kind of watch list.

Re: M3 Touring
I think you've probably hit the nail on the head, selling something like a Lotus just seems to be straightforward (at least once you get to someone physically coming to look at the car, ignoring the dreamers).Matty wrote: Wed Mar 08, 2023 12:15 am

I would probably trade in something a bit more common because the breadth of buyers is so much more unpredictable.

Re: M3 Touring
Yes, there's definitely something about that observation @Matty. I also think that there's too much information out there on forums now - I found that when selling the Boxster - which people often just read without any prior knowledge or context, so those who aren't nerds are just reading stuff at face value and regurgitating it.
That story about the SLK55 made me
Did he try and throw some dags in to the bargain too?

Re: M3 Touring
The car has landed... The BMW online chat thing is really good.
Just need to get hold of my salesman now and arrange a date to get it... do a few miles (snowpocalypse permitting)... and then drop it off to get PPF.
No sign of the wheels which I'm still thinking might be a mis-price mistake.

Re: M3 Touring
Not many people buy cars above £15k without some sort of finance or part exchange. Its tough to sell anything above that privately. The next owner of my E46 M3 had viewed it when i advertised it only to pay £1500 more for it 2 days later from a dealer i traded it to!Matty wrote: Wed Mar 08, 2023 12:15 am On a side note, I would point out that selling an M BMW, AMG Merc or RS Audi would make me consider losing thousands. Hopefully pick it up on Monday which is probably a good idea given the weather we've got forecast for this weekend. Definitely needs a clean...
