Stag do track day

Post by Explosive Newt »

Organising for a mate. Any advice on good half days / days which are good fun and not stupidly expensive?
Ideally Southern England.

Are you wanting to bring own vehicles? Brands Hatch has track days from £30, there's a hotel next door and it isn't far from nice pubs with rooms and the like (though will need to drive to/from them).

Better off karting, or Benidorm?

I was more thinking along the lines of those “experience” type days - my initial thought had been the Lotus half day but they only one once a month.

Karting… done that!

Jonathan Palmer days are the right answer to do this sort of thing properly, as long as you're all on doctor wages that is ;) https://www.palmersport.com/event-options/full-day

Caterham Drift Days look a hoot and very reasonable, they were £135 for half days and £200 ish for a full. They do a few different venues as well.

Whilst I have never personally been - other than complaints about track limits being rigorously applied "I bloody was faster than you (yc), but look - my best lap was cut due to a franky tiny track limits infringement - didn't save me so much as 0.001 seconds etc etc", I don't think I have heard anything negative about the Palmersport experience days. They are pricey, but offer a good range of cars and I understand you are encouraged to push hard.

In fact we mused on here (or maybe it was the old site?) about organising a forum day there, but it never got past the "would anyone be interested?" stage..... :?

The Palmer days are not cheap, but are great value when you consider what it costs to take your own car on a track day. They're also happy for you to drive to the limit of your abilities.

This is a good shout, I did one of these and it was a great laugh for the cost. Watch out though, you might want a 7 after you do one!

I had a cracking AMG track session at Silverstone but looking online there's no more mention of it so I guess they've packed up :?
It was on the actual circuit which made it unique.

Haven't done it personally but my dad has been on a few Silverstone Porsche days with mates. He doesn't particularly rate it full marks because it's not on an actual track but rather Porsche have their own B road type layout but you're free to drive hard. Think Mercedes Benz Brooklands but more grown up https://www.porsche.com/silverstone/en/ ... xperience/
How about not having a sig at all?

Stag do and track day not something you would associate together. Getting battered and karting far safer and cheaper unless your mate is a fun sponge.

Good shout… we did one in Milton Keynes as a work do. 1 hour race, teams of 3 in a AMG GT3 at Spa. Very good experience

Main advantage, seeing as it’s a Stag,? is you can Drink ‘n’ Drive ;)

Edit - strictly speaking, not VR but still very immersive

I did a rally driving one in Oxford on my stag do. My dad managed to hit a tree in a mk2 escort... they had a whole barn of replacement panels so we asked if lots of people crashed... to which they replied an unhappy, "no, not in 2 years of doing it had anyone else crashed.." 😬

I was thinking of that as it would be very handy in terms of location but unfortunately they only seem to do weekdays. I did it a while ago and it was good fun (and probably resulted in me buying my Boxster) but you did get the slight vibe that you were paying £250 to be sold a car (which is probably why I bought my Boxster).
