I don’t know why but I thought I could tax the car, SORN it and then claim back 5 months of tax but seems that’s no longer the case. + a 1 day insurance policy is about £70. So it makes much more sense to just pick up a smaller car with my trailer (capacity 1400kg).
Sadly this rules out shonky Range Rovers, XC90s, Cayennes and X5s but that’s probably a blessing in disguise.
Or combine both requirements and get a Suzuki jimny

I want something I can permanently park there, hopefully it will act as a deterrent as it will make it look like someone is working/camping in the woods and also stop people blocking the gate. I then wish to park it just behind the gate and in between 2 large trees. Acting as a kind of roadblock in case someone tries to cut the padlock to the gate to enter and steal items from the shed (this happened to a neighbour nearby).
All of the stuff I have stored is heavy and only movable by towing - I remove the tow bars for security as it’s only 2 bolts but having a car there with a tow bar for moving things around is handy as it means I could visit in any car rather than just the Defender.
I don’t think a Jimny is wise as it’s seems the most desirable small 4x4 for thieves to target so that could cause a problem in itself.
How about not having a sig at all?

Sounds like a job for a removable bollard tbh, rather than leaving a car to rot in the woods in case you need.

That should still be the case - it's always been the case that if you SORN then you get a refund of months remaining until your VED expires. You could instead tax it by direct debit and then SORN and cancel the direct debit later the same month.

Get someone to deliver it. Or hire a full size trailer for a day and use the Land Rover to collect it.

Not just avoiding the VED cost, but the new car doesn't need to be MOT'd or insured either.

Yeah delivery makes the most sense, I won't be venturing too far North anyway so delivery won't cost too much. Annoyingly all the cheap cars seem to be around Birmingham. Only other thing is do I wait until the summer. New expanded ULEZ zone covering all of greater London might mean a lot of diesel 4x4s being dumped?

Should've kept the standard rear lights.

A couple of things I spotted last night that have sold already (that are probably only of interest to me);

and a slight oddball I've just spotted;

Not simultaneously, but Southampton is only an hour from here. I could have them both back home by lunchtime if I get my skates on.

Wifey has said I can buy both if I'm going to fix them & flip them :shock:

Totally unrelated news - she's currently on her fourth glass of prosecco this evening :lol:

Soooooo...what have you ended up buying?

Heh, nothing yet.

The Aston would have been too brave and as much as my wife is lovely and very understanding, having *two* Astons would be quite a stretch ! I wouldn't want to get rid of the Vantage.

The two MINIs were simply too expensive. I paid £1300 for mine with the intention of keeping it, not looking for profit. I'm up to about £2k all-in now having done more work than I planned for. There's probably a small profit there but not much. Not enough to make it worthwhile.

There's this one on ebay right now, needing a timing chain:

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/175596783102

Identical spec to mine and near-identical mileage too. It's at £1k with six days to go. I'll keep an eye on it. Maybe I'm under-valuing mine.

Ah, I'd assumed (if you made the leap) it would take the place of the Vantage.
It was seeing a Clubman on the road I liked that prompted the post. I'll have to have a look at prices, but if timing chain problems are common/likely there's got to be value in one with it all done.

This could suit a @Mito Man @Sundayjumper and maybe even an @integrale_evo collaboration;
