2023/4 Events - what's worthwhile?

Post by Matty »

Anyone attending any car shows/events this year? More importantly, what's worthwhile attending?

Goodwood FOS is the only one on my list.

Festival of the Unexceptional always looks like a nostalgia-fest but I’ve never bothered to go.

The Bicester Sunday Scrambles appear to attract some interesting cars.

Would love to go to Goodwood but miles away from me.

What happened to Motorshows, I used to love sitting in all the new stuff and seeing concept cars close up.

Goodwood is about 3 hours, but we're looking to stay over the night before.

Bicester, looking at the Mini event in May, as that's not far away....depends if my brother-in-law is brave enough to drive his over though.

Farnborough in August ?

We went last year, it wasn’t as big as Earl’s Court used to be but it was a good day out.

I see Pistonheads are holding a 25th celebration event at Bicester in August.

I tend to just go to local classic car shows generally with occasional trips further afield if I can tie it in with something else.

I really want to do Goodwood this year but not sure how it fits in to everything going on. Ultimate BMW looks good too.
Cheers,

Mike.

You didn't specify a mileage limit ;)

Go for at least 2 days of the Goodwood revival, it makes the festival of speed quite redundant.

Dressing up revolves around a bit of tweed and a flat cap and the ladies love it. It’s fantastic.

Another vote for the revival here, will definitely do it again in the next couple of years.

The Bicester scramble events give an awesome selection of cars, but it’s a bit of a victim of its own success. They tend to sell out quickly and can be very busy.

I’m also a bit weird and don’t like booking things up months in advance, I like to base my decisions on mood and weather and which car I’ll be taking.

This. However, I'd disagree that it makes the FoS redundant. Both are great but quite different. And imo you need 3 days to do either the full justice.

Really wouldn't mind getting to GW this year as we've not been in over 10yrs I think

Not an event and perhaps not what you are looking for.
But Stuttgart is well worth the trip; Porsche Museum is simply superb, Mercedes museum is nice & well executed. And of course Technik Museums Speyer Sinsheim are just around the corner. BMW in Munich isn't that far away either.....

And if you just happen to be over that way then the Nurburgring 24hour is an amazing event 8-)

I’d not heard of this before. Just booked tickets for April.
