The Weather Thread.
Re: The Weather Thread.
-10 here. I’ve got to run to the other side of Cheltenham later to pick up my car this morning. Finding pavements that aren’t iced over is going to be a challenge.

Office Christmas party today

I hope you don't have to go to Up Hatherley - Gloucester Live is its usual doom-monger self: https://www.gloucestershirelive.co.uk/n ... rs-7927786240PP wrote: Thu Dec 15, 2022 9:43 am -10 here. I'm in Swindon for work today and saw -8.5c on the car dashboard. Weather app says its -7 but feels like -12c. I'm really not a fan of it being this cold. At least the office heating is on full blast!
Re: The Weather Thread.
It's been quite nice here, I don't think it's been above 0 all week but it's bone dry so it's not been that miserable clinging cold.
Suitably wintery pic I took yesterday morning.

I went through the centre of town which was mostly fine. Once I was out the other side it became worse but made it with everything intact.
Re: The Weather Thread.
One thing I must say - I haven't seen a single gritter out and about since this cold snap started. Are they on strike too and just haven't told anyone?

-3 yesterday, 3 today and pissing down. All snow and ice gone.
Re: The Weather Thread.

It barely reached 0° here, much frozen slipperiness.
Re: The Weather Thread.
Freezing hard again now, snow forecast.

Re: The Weather Thread.
Not been above 0 for over a week now. Even when I left work yesterday in nice bright sunshine and 3c, buy the time I’d driven inland to get home it was dull, misty and -1
Snow from Sunday still covering the garden and cars.
Lots of gritters about around here. They didn’t seem to be pretreating anything on Sunday, but have been throwing lots down everywhere, even on minor roads, since then.

Re: The Weather Thread.
Loads of people have fallen over in our work carpark, because the cheapskate landlord didn't bother to grit the carpark. Though they claimed they did...they clearly didn't. When I parked up, I had to take a space where the sun doesn't hit and the compacted ice made it really like an ice rink...fortunately I still maintained traction and grip at all times, both my car and me walking across the carpark to the office!
On my way home there was a traffic jam on the A12/A14 roundabout, so I went the mostly single track country road way. There was only one road which wasn't gritted...again compacted snow and a decent downhill gradient. Was surprised how the Crossclimates fitted to my Golf didn't slip at any point.

That's a bit shit Duncs. Hope you managed to stop the leak before too much water escaped!duncs500 wrote: Thu Dec 15, 2022 9:23 am I had -8.5degC this morning, plus a burst pipe in the house. The cold itself doesn't really bother me, but all the shit that goes tits up as a result does!

I've just been to sort my parent's Boiler out (pipe outside of house had frozen) and the roads were very very icy. I'm glad to have decent all season rubber on the car.
Re: The Weather Thread.
Luckily it was an easy one to isolate, apparently it's well known to put some sort of sock over your outdoor tap, but as someone quite new to having an outdoor tap I didn't get the memo.Marv wrote: Thu Dec 15, 2022 10:06 pmThat's a bit shit Duncs. Re: The Weather Thread.
Heating has been pumping hard for the last 24 hours to barely keep the place above 15º. I dream of life in a modern, well-insulated apartment that retains heat.
Re: The Weather Thread.
-6 this morning.
Our new house is considerably better at retaining heat than our last place. Kitchen and Dining room do get cold (Big open space, Wooden Floors etc) but the upstairs, my office and the Living room stay toasty long after the heating is off.
We're just giving 1 hour blasts 3 or 4 times per day at the moment

A clear sky, hard frost, -2° fl -5° atm. About half an hour a go a driving school car went past, good experience for the learner
