No F1 thread?
Re: No F1 thread?
It is a pretty common hairstyle amongst black people...

I am remarkably out of touch with that demographic, apparently.
He still looks ridiculous, though.

Yeah I agree - watched him with Any D infront of the screen thing before the race and just wondered how he can look so wanky - his jeans probably cost over a grand and were scruffy as fuck. And the tats, hair - trying too hard.
Good drive tho

Re: No F1 thread?
Ricciardo has left Red Bull and is moving to Renault. Didn’t see that coming. Is it pure desperation because he didn’t get a Ferrari/Mercedes seat or does he think the Honda unit will be that crap next year?

On the face of it that seems like a backwards step. Shame as I'd love to see him in something more competitive

You're more likely to win a championship with a works drive and Max is the golden boy at RBR. Renault seem to be on the up.
My current guess is Sainz to MacLaren (desperation?), Vandoorne to Sauber, Leclerc to Ferrari, Kimi to the nearest pub.
Gasley will go up to Red Bull, Norris will go to Toro Rosso to get them to release Key earlier.
Stroll potentially to Force India, depending on the paperwork of the loan that Stroll Snr has agreed in principle to Farce India. That will push Ocon or Perez out to... Williams?
Williams to Formula 2.

But who will have what hairstyle? That’s the important question.Jimmy Choo wrote: Fri Aug 03, 2018 1:59 pm You're more likely to win a championship with a works drive and Max is the golden boy at RBR. Renault seem to be on the up.

If they don't look like Jackie Stewart in 1973, they get a 10 second stop and go penalty.NotoriousREV wrote: Fri Aug 03, 2018 2:06 pmBut who will have what hairstyle? They seem thoroughly stuck in the mid pack, no sign of getting close to RBR on current form.
Doesn't seem like a great move to me, but you never know

Fingers crossex that either Renault buck their ideas up or that it's a holding year for DR before replacing Bottas at MercMarv wrote: Fri Aug 03, 2018 4:18 pmThey seem thoroughly stuck in the mid pack, no sign of getting close to RBR on current form.
Doesn't seem like a great move to me, but you never knowif he drags some strong podiums or even race wins out of the Renault, then it might get Mercedes or Ferraris attention.

Re: No F1 thread?
Horner has just confirmed RBR are treating 2019 as a finding their feet season with the Honda engine. That only really leaves 2020 as a possibility for DR to have a shot at the championship in an RBR car before the 2021 rule changes come in.Swervin_Mervin wrote: Fri Aug 03, 2018 4:32 pmFingers crossex that either Renault buck their ideas up or that it's a holding year for DR before replacing Bottas at MercMarv wrote: Fri Aug 03, 2018 4:18 pmThey seem thoroughly stuck in the mid pack, no sign of getting close to RBR on current form.

Sounds like a gamble with an option to join a larger team if Renault doesn't work out.

Re: No F1 thread?
Quite a risky option seeing as all the big teams now have established young driver programs, which will likely have preference over an ‘outsider’

Re: No F1 thread?
Everyone said Hamilton moving to Mercedes was a mistake, and look how that worked out. Only time will tell, and he may be playing the long game- Renault may know something the others don’t and emerge as the top engine under they new rules
Re: No F1 thread?
I like Bottas but I still hope it's the latter, DR continues to impress me, to see him in a competitive car would be awesome and he deserves it.Swervin_Mervin wrote: Fri Aug 03, 2018 4:32 pmFingers crossex that either Renault buck their ideas up or that it's a holding year for DR before replacing Bottas at MercMarv wrote: Fri Aug 03, 2018 4:18 pmThey seem thoroughly stuck in the mid pack, no sign of getting close to RBR on current form.

Yeah, i expect it’s a calculated gamble. Hopefully he won’t end up like Alonso, always making the wrong gamble.
Re: No F1 thread?
RIC. You have to feel for FA, anyone who follows F1 knows that he is consistently brilliant. He's made terrible/unlucky decisions on teams for most of his career.
From him being the driver I was always rooting against, I would now love to see him win one more world title. Sadly it doesn't look likely.
He has always hated being in an equal rights team, but if I was him I'd take a drive as a number two in a top team and show people just how good I was by beating the recognised number one. Of course relies on a team with a number one driver who would accept him, which looks unlikely.

Re: No F1 thread?
FA is a brilliant driver but I can’t feel sorry for him when I remember that he made all those crap decisions himself, was usually at the centre of every political mess and created a toxic environment within the teams he drove for.
Supposedly the difference between him and Schumacher was that yes they’re both ruthless cunts on track but Schumacher was a decent person off the track and to his own team.
