Shame the Dutch lost. The Argentinians really are oiks. I mean Paredes booting the ball into the Holland dug out after taking out one of the Dutch players. The irony after all the cards that ref handed out is that Paredes' behaviour coming right after the foul really should really have culminated in a red. Van Dijk wiping him out afterwards probably saved his bacon.

Definitely agree with the comments about Martinez though - what an incredible keeper. That's what worries me about a scenario where we end up in penalties as Pickford clearly isn't in the same league.

On balance I thought England were better, unlucky to lose. As a long suffering England fan it's great to feel like you belong deep in international tournaments, I hope Southgate stays on.

They played really well, even dominating for periods in the second half. When it comes to actually putting it in the net, they often disappoint. We’ve been knocked out in more quarter finals than any other country, it’s our place.

Southgate has created a new generation of England team that has a cohesive maturity which we lacked for a long time, they feel like a squad who are making good decision and are in it together. However they still can’t break out of our ‘place’ in world football.

Sure, the ref played a role etc, but considering how we played, that score line could easily have been 2-1 in our favour.

I don’t watch a lot of football, but England are always so disappointing to watch. They just never really seem to gel, and as said above often look like a lower league team having a Sunday knockabout. Very rarely is there ever any flare, excitement or creative play.

The best football league in the world, some amazing players, yet rarely deliver a decent result or even an entire match you can watch and think ‘yeah, they played well’

0-0 vs the USA and looking like they were on their way home for the first 30mins against Senegal didn’t Exactly bode well.
