Advanced Driving Tuition
Re: Advanced Driving Tuition
The commentary bit is interesting, I usually have a running commentary in my mind but it's probably not what the IAM are looking for.
"Cvnting cyclists going 2 abreast actively forming a rolling road block"
"Shitting tosser braking 300 metres before the roundabout, roundabout is clear, why did the fvcker come to a complete stop"
"Another prick in a Vectra trying to join the motorway at 40 mph, fvcking press the throttle a bit more ya cant"

"Shitting tosser braking 300 metres before the roundabout, roundabout is clear, why did the fvcker come to a complete stop"
"Another prick in a Vectra trying to join the motorway at 40 mph, fvcking press the throttle a bit more ya cant"
How about not having a sig at all?

Re: Advanced Driving Tuition
Reg Local videos have been part of my homework
Re: Advanced Driving Tuition
Lol @Mito Man .
I've seen some of Reg's videos before. I don't know personally, but I'd assume that the positioning, observation skills / awareness / techniques would be entirely applicable even if your speed crept slightly above the posted limit.

Re: Advanced Driving Tuition
I have a few books of various vintage, These plus the IAM's own 'Pass you Advanced Driving Test' from 1996 (can only add three images to the post). Thought about It but never done it.
Through work one upon a time we got a defensive driving course for free. It was really good, with an ex-police instructor iirc. Did it in my 540i. Very fast, all about observation, smoothness and eye contact. Some on-road overtakes and levels of speed I was not expecting (a particular memory of overtaking someone where there was a car waiting to pull out of a side road some way down on the right hand side). Also included some time at Bruntingthorpe going very fast, until I got a puncture then decided I maybe didn't want to risk another one.
Also a couple of CarLimits Activity Days in my MX-5, which were instructive and fun too, obviously.

Re: Advanced Driving Tuition
@tim this has come up this morning - I have a friend/someone I know who's well on the way to scaring herself to death on a bike and is asking for recommendations on training. She's moving over to the UK early next year so I said I'd ask you where to start and point her?
She has the added problem of being insanely, stinkingly hot. So everyone she meets either assumes she's an airhead or just wants to hit on her - but, actually very driven, very intelligent, very tech savvy (works in cyber security stuff) but has a bit of wild streak which she's exercising on the bike but recognises she needs to tone down before she hurts herself. If she finds the right instructor that doesn't want to get her in her pants, I think she'd soak up training like a sponge.

Re: Advanced Driving Tuition
Wherever she lands when she gets here, its probably worth trying to get on a BikeSafe day with the local plod, costs are minimal and a great little starter. Bike control plays a big part in riding safely (duh) so that's worth swotting up on too, CSS or similar are great as they are track based (safety, repeatable corners etc).
Time, money, motivation are the obvious factors getting in my way for advanced training. I've done assessments, and ride with a couple of RoSpa members occasionally (and they haven't pulled me up yet
) so I should make more effort really.

Re: Advanced Driving Tuition
What Barry said.
Then send her my way
Then send her my way
You settle up, I'll go get the Jag.
Re: Advanced Driving Tuition
Happy to send her your way Tim - do you have a preferred method of contact for a random chick from the internet?
Re: Advanced Driving Tuition
Opposite of advanced driving but I’ve noticed a local driving school in London has bought a fleet of Model Ys. That must be borderline cheating as the car has so many assists.
Don’t have to brake at all apart from the emergency stop, reversing and parking will be a doddle as it shows you exactly where the cars around you are and you have the cameras. Don’t have to pay attention to speed limit signs or traffic lights, the screen will show you all cars relative to you… What a joke!
