That was on a tdi rather than a petrol so maybe not entirely relevant, I didn't know the MINI was DI though. I'm surprised I haven't seen a return of fifth injector kits like people used to fit to RS Turbos :P

I saw that Toyota were designing an engine with both port and direct injection to counteract this situation.

Just tipped over 3 years of ownership and 35k miles in the Up GTi. Now due another service which is booked into MidlandVW.

It just continues to be a brilliant little car.

Got another Audi service plan (covers the next two services) since they're offering a 25% discount currently.

New tyres due to arrive around the end of the month, which is good because the current Contis are tramlining a bit. They still clear water amazingly well on the motorway, despite being down at 3-4mm of tread left.

Sixteen new valve stem seals fitted. They weren't on my original to-do list but they were included with the head gasket kit and having removed them, ALL of them had oil inside - i.e. on the wrong side of the seal. So well worth the effort. The tool from ebay worked OK once I'd:

1) tied the head to the bench to keep it steady
2) tied the lever to the crossbar to steady it and stop it falling off when you let go

The cam chain kit has arrived and I've ordered walnut blasting stuff to clean out the inlets properly. I am *hoping* to have it all back together this weekend.

I had the broken spring replaced on the Panda on Monday so now both fronts are new. Only an hours labour for the garage but I can guarantee it would have taken me at least double without access to a ramp.

Jaja, I was thinking aftermarket kits though. I guess most people wouldn't pay for prevention though, look at all the cunt kids about.

I took an extra 15 minutes for my lunch break and put the new cam chain in. It’s much easier when the engine is half dismantled already :)

Service inc brake fluid change. Front pads. Rear pads. Rear calliper (1 of).

Could maybe have done some of that myself and saved a few hundred in labour but... excuses [lack of time/lack of skill/it's cold out]

Although now having taken it for a spin just to check, the difference appears to be that the pedal is now very, very soft. I can push it what feels like nearly an inch before any effect. And sat at idle and pressing the brake pedal it sounds like something bringing themselves off (loud exhales of air - yes I have a recording if you must). I’ll be on the phone to them in the morning.

How chunky? My wife mentioned last night that she’d spent £2k on hers recently. Cambelt, service, brakes, MOT including two tyres. Apart from buying a set of winter wheels and enabling CarPlay, though, it’s the first expenditure on it at all in 2 years.

Still think it would have been cheaper at the main dealer 😄

I think the Clubman is done. I spent all day on it today, it was only putting stuff back together but it took longer than I’d planned for. By 5 o’clock I had to break out the camping lights to see what I was doing.

I’ve been for a short drive, it hasn’t lost all its coolant (win!) but it doesn’t feel like it’s running 100%. Feels flat. There’s no error codes showing up though. I’ll give it a chance. Maybe it’s just recalibrating itself. With the oil coming through the valve stems and the decat messing up the lambda readings the adaptations could be all over the place right now.

Spent a chunk of the day investigating an internal waterfeature on the x5.

It has the panoramic roof and they’re known to be unreliable. I would have preferred one without but virtually all is’ seem to have them. Chances of finding another in a spec / colour etc I liked without one could have taken years.

Anyway, was only planning on dropping the back of the headlining, but that didn’t make access very easy, so ended up taking the whole thing out 😬

Clipped a guide piece back in, and got the rear internal cover back on its track so it drops down like it should so the front section can slide over the top. A couple of other guides look worn/ broken so have packed them out with plastic to even up the gaps so the glass panels are at least sitting where they should.

The sunroofs are never supposed to be totally watertight, but provide enough of a seal that the drains can deal with whatever escapes through. Found the internal gutter under the rear section was pushed back to literally flush with the gap instead of sitting directly under. Possibly caught and pushed by one of the other bits not moving correctly.

Then it got dark, so it’s all in a sorry state 🤣 need to get a hose on it tomorrow and see if it’s any better, if not I’ll line the headliner with plastic so I can at least divert any water away safely and not over all the stereo electronics.

I would love to get it all working properly, but it’s horrible to work on and probably needs the whole thing dropping off the roof. Not something I fancy attempting at this time of year.

Hmm. It seems to be running a bit rich. There’s no error codes coming up but the post-cat lambda reads as “not ready” the whole time. I’ll try a new one.

Have you tried it with the lambda unplugged to force it in open loop and see if it had power then?

Then put this back in. Not a fun job, but not the worst. Annoying they use torx fittings and needed 3 different sizes for all the ones needed. Bit of a pain because I can’t identify them by eye like a normal hex.

I haven't. That's a very sensible idea !

I could also pinch the lambda sensor form my wife's car and try that. But I only thought of that after already ordering a new one.
