Every report I've seen is the local MP stating that they've been warning about this for years, because trawlers keep cutting the lines, and the local telecoms operator stating exactly the same thing. Their own head of infrastructure has stated:
Cop in charge:"We have reason to believe that the cable was damaged by a fishing vessel."
That's not the same as specuating it's the ruskies wot done it - that's eyerolling that it has happened again."We expect it will be fishing vessels that damaged the cable but it is very rare that we have two problems at the same time.
And having grown up around independent trawler operators in that area.....yeah, Occams Razor puts them atop the list.
Unless anyone wants to speculate that it was a Ruskie Spec ops unit trying to cut off a radar station (that will have satellite comms available precisely because of this risk) and inconvenience twenty thousand sheepshaggers. There'll be some funny shaped lambs coming around soon I imagine...
