Every report I've seen is the local MP stating that they've been warning about this for years, because trawlers keep cutting the lines, and the local telecoms operator stating exactly the same thing. Their own head of infrastructure has stated:

"We have reason to believe that the cable was damaged by a fishing vessel."

Cop in charge:

"We expect it will be fishing vessels that damaged the cable but it is very rare that we have two problems at the same time.

That's not the same as specuating it's the ruskies wot done it - that's eyerolling that it has happened again.

And having grown up around independent trawler operators in that area.....yeah, Occams Razor puts them atop the list.

Unless anyone wants to speculate that it was a Ruskie Spec ops unit trying to cut off a radar station (that will have satellite comms available precisely because of this risk) and inconvenience twenty thousand sheepshaggers. There'll be some funny shaped lambs coming around soon I imagine...

I still see nothing to support the inference here that it's a deliberate act rather than a rare occurrence of an accidental nature - again, trawlers are notorious for damaging undersea links.

Occams Razor for me, until I see strong evidence to the contrary.

Here's something extremely curious, and which hasn't been reported much if at all recently - Ukraine has a nuclear guarantee from China. Signed in late 2013, China is bound by treaty to launch nuclear retaliation against anyone who performs a nuclear attack on Ukraine.

As the article points out, the only way a nuclear threat could occur against Ukraine is from Russia, so how did / does China square that with its trade relations with Russia ? What a pickle ! And does Putin really want to find out ?

It's really great to see the scenes in Ukraine with Kherson getting liberated, it must be an amazing feeling for the residents. I do fear that it's far from over though, Russia must have something up their sleeve.

Two people have been killed in Poland after two stray Russian rockets landed near the border with Ukraine.

The rockets landed in the NATO state following Russia's mass bombardment of Ukrainian cities earlier today, which saw over 100 rockets launched.

According to the AP news agency, a senior US intelligence official said that the missiles were of Russian origin.

Poland's Prime Minister, Mateusz Morawiecki, has convened the Committee of the Council of Ministers for National Security and Defense Affairs "as a matter of urgency", government spokesman Piotr Müller confirmed, with local news sites claiming this is likely the result of the explosions.

Fucking whoops a doodle.

Unlikely to lead to any action, other than Putin being pushed into either a grovelling apology against threats of Article 5, or to mealy mouth it, but still admit that his missiles can't even hit the right country.

Either way, it's gonna play badly domestically I suspect.

Here's a really curious coincidence though - the missile(s) landed due north of Lviv. If you follow that latitude due east it lines up perfectly with the dam on the northern edge of Kyiv. Exactly the kind of thing Russia has been targeting. It's almost as if someone fat-fingered the coordinates for Kyiv / Lviv.
