What Tyres?

Post by Swervin_Mervin »

So the 330 needs some new rears. I'm not that well up on what's what these days with tyres, so am after some recommendations.

I've not been that impressed with the GY Eagle F1 Asym 3 that have been on it for the last 3 years - much preferred the Vredesteins I had on before that, but finding the Vorti doesn't seem that straightforward. The F1s just seems a little too soft in the sidewall for my liking.

So I see the Michelin PS5 has been released this year but there aren't many, if any, tyre tests including it yet. The most recent tests seem to focus on the Eagle F1 6 and the Conti SC7, neither of which I'm interested in. And the tests of the PS4 mention a lot about lack of feedback. Whilst I'm only looking at rears for now the chances are I'll replace the fornts next year with the same, hence would rather avoid anything that's a bit devoid of feel.

So anyone tried the PS5? Any other ones I should be considering?

More than happy with ps4. Enough so that I’ve just stuck another pair on the back of the merc.

PS5 are clearly an update to the PS4, and not therefore quite as performance oriented as the PS4S.

Yeah, PS4S isn't even an option anyway tbh, as they're not available in the sizes I'd want. Possibly a bit much as well for a family wagon

I ran a few sets of Goodyear F1 supersport on my M140i and they were superb.

Done a few miles on these in the mini - if you are after a budget tyre they are quite good. See how much they are

Given 90% while driving a BMW 520d M Sport (275/35 R19) on a combination of roads for 1,000 spirited miles
PS71 for staggered setup on BMW 5 Series on 19” alloys. Just about a 1,000 miles in and were an excellent purchase decision. Good high speed stability within limits, sharp cornering and nice balance between sportiness and motorway ride comfort. Nice sidewall design and looks nice following a detail. No issues in the wet or dry, stops well in both conditions and very happy.

Went for the PS5 in the end. Halfords/Tyres on the drive.

Both wheels marked, however. Great. Why can so few places actually fit tyres without damaging them? I've used a local Blackcircles pitstop place before and it has a machine that presses the tyre over the rim without anyone needing to lean on a pry bar. But they're shut at the mo so I thought I'd try these guys.

Will now have to take pics so they can open a ticket to get them refurbed.
