They might still count the £15m expenditure as worth it, as from what I understand they gain an advantage for about three seasons by over spending on one.

£15m would be a major breach and as they say - penalties could involve removing championships.

Yeah, sorry to clarify I mean the ~£7.5m they may have over spent in the 2021 season (#speculation), plus the £7.5m fine they'd receive as a fine out of next years budget (if we we're to follow what you're proposing)

id imagine that persistent offending would also count more harshly.

I still think Removing the ability to spend the money twice would surely be the most fair and elegant answer though.

Mclaren were also excluded from the 2007 constructors championship, so even when Lewis came second in the wdc with them they couldn’t score any constructors points, therefore no prize money

Weirdly I thought Sainz was more to blame for the lap 1 incident than George? He turned in suddenly away from the normal racing line. I’d have put it down as a normal lap 1 incident with no penalty.

I had Russell/Sainz as a racing incident - cold tyres/brakes + defending a position he knew he had lost - sad Sainz went out however as he would have beaten Verstappen

Alonso pushed out the points by a 30 second penalty. Haas protested him being allowed to continue racing with his mirror flapping about and not getting a black and orange flag. Which they’ve had three times this year, so I understand their annoyance. Haas contacted race control twice during the race and they were ignored at the time

Probably worth it given the gains they've made on the field.

Probably not worth the other teams trying to now do the same. The £7m would probably be a risk worth taking, but less so the aero research time loss.

I just don't know how easy it is to enforce the reduction in aero development. As you say though @Swervin_Mervin with it being a fundamental change in aero concept last year they've already reaped much of the rewards.
