Which car companies have no cars in their current range you're interested in.

I'm left cold by Audi. The RS6 comes close but not close enough. Citroen haven't had anything since the Xantia Activ.
Personally its a very long list. Much easier to list the ones of interest:

McLaren
Ferrari
Maserati
Ford
Jaguar
Mercedes
Koenigsegg
Renault
Porsche
I'm guessing you've driven cars from a fair few more marques to get down to that list?
I have.

Which Renault interests you? The only one I can think of is the Alpine which isn't really a Renault at all although does seem to have the alarming unreliability!
Correct on the Alpine

Yes. Back in the 70s and 80s, a large percentage of the car buying public bought either a Ford, Vauxhall or BL, with many just going out and replacing their Viva with a Chevette, then the Chevette with an Astra and so on.

A bloke at work just bought a 2 year old, bottom of the range Astra and is insanely happy with it. I don’t get it but he likes it.
I bet if he drove a Ford for a day - and probably for the first time in his life - he wouldn't look back.
I had a (current) Astra hire car on holiday last year - was quite impressed with it TBH. And the new Insignia's supposed to be pretty good.

Back in the late 80's Dad had a string of Cavalier company cars. Back when Cleland was in the touring cars I think. Anyway, they were great back then - interior was really plush compared to the competition. Then the Vectra happened a few years later and it all went downhill.

On what are you basing the unreliability claim, considering the first production run is only being delivered to customers this week?

My dad (who always keeps cars for years, until they are on their absolute last legs - he only got rid of his 406 last year) had a mk2 Cavalier when I was a kid. He had it for about 6 months because he hated it so much. It got replaced by a Sierra 2.0i Ghia (C314BTR) which was great.

I’m not even sure what was so bad about it, but I have hated Vauxhalls ever since!

Conversely, my Mum's dad alway had Cortinas until the Sierra came out, when he switched to Cavaliers.

Cavaliers were so much better than Sierras it's not even funny, and The Figures prove this. Can you please tell your dad that he was wrong? Thanks.

I've mentioned my Dad's MK2 Cavaliers many times before, they were catastrophically bad cars. The first one chewed through camshafts quicker than tyres, I believe it had to have it replaced twice in 2 years. Quite why he bought another to replace it is beyond me but that one came at the time when it was fashionable to have the cars number plate etched on t the windows, Vauxhall dis this but etched the wrong number onto every piece of glass, headlights, indicators, sunroof, the lot, requiring them all to be replaced. The car itself them started to rust requiring a full respray when it was 3 weeks old!

So so many manufacturers that seem to have given up even trying these days. There's very little outside of the halo models that i find remotely interesting anymore.

I've lost count of the number of times I've been on a website to check out engine options only to find you're restricted either to some wheezy entry level engine or the mental banzai engine. The germans are some of the worst for this.

Merc? Probably

Their AMG cars have lost something since moving away from the big 5.5 and 6.2 litre engines, and the AMG badges moving onto the wrong side

I don’t especially care for the current design language either
