GE after full term or earlier?
Sunak was quite reasonable in his planning and outlook so will hopefully be a stabilising force. Although it is concerning that we now prioritise the economy over democracy.
So much of this. Lord Buckethead for PMMcSwede wrote: Mon Oct 24, 2022 7:09 am The political situation at the minute is awful. If there was a GE I haven't got a clue what I'd do. There is a real lack of anyone who is electable.
There is a mandate for the Conservative Party, and if they pick Rishi unopposed then I think constitutionally he'll assume the role with the least risk to the country's stability. Even a general election and a solid Labour majority would not immediately fix our woes. Can't believe I sound like I'm supporting him; I don't, but I can't object on constitutional grounds.Simon wrote: Mon Oct 24, 2022 9:21 am At least Rishi isn't cuckoo crazy like Johnson, but there is no mandate for him.
Don't know what's worse cuckoo crazy or no f'in idea about how the 95% have to live and function in the real world.Simon wrote: Mon Oct 24, 2022 9:21 am At least Rishi isn't cuckoo crazy like Johnson, but there is no mandate for him. However, a long recess for an election right now wouldn't be ideal given the state Johnson and Truss have left things in and action that needs to be taken in Parliament. Spend a year starting to put things right then call an election, but don't wait until the end of the term.
Does that matter ? - There hasn't been a PM of this country ever that has a clue how at least 80 to 85% I'd say of the population live...drcarlos wrote: Mon Oct 24, 2022 10:33 am Don't know what's worse cuckoo crazy or no f'in idea about how the 95% have to live and function in the real world.
I’d put that number much higher. They don’t know how the 99.9% of this country that aren’t politicians livedinny_g wrote: Mon Oct 24, 2022 11:19 amDoes that matter ? - There hasn't been a PM of this country ever that has a clue how at least 80 to 85% I'd say of the population live...drcarlos wrote: Mon Oct 24, 2022 10:33 am Don't know what's worse cuckoo crazy or no f'in idea about how the 95% have to live and function in the real world.
Agreed. The Conservative party won a majority in the last election not Boris.Jobbo wrote: Mon Oct 24, 2022 10:32 amThere is a mandate for the Conservative Party, and if they pick Rishi unopposed then I think constitutionally he'll assume the role with the least risk to the country's stability. Agree that he'll not go for an early general election; what's the point? He must be taking this on with the expectation and intention of trying to improve the Tories' reputation and polling in the two years before the next GE has to take place.
