We went to see Trainspotting at the Tramway Theatre in Glsgow - live play - and Mr Coltrane was sat in the seats behind us. His laugh was like someone smacking a couple of big mallets on an old metal dustbin….

Very sad - he was always entertaining.

We watched all of Cracker again in May (holiday house had the DVD and we found it online anyway) and it still stands up now.

One of his big yank mobiles at a petrol station. I convinced myself that I kept a respectful distance, but in reality I think I pooped my pants to go over and speak to him. His Coltranes Planes & Automobiles stuff was indeed fabulous.

I get the impression that if you had walked up to him and asked 'I don't know what this car is, what is it?' he'd have gleefully bored you about it. But of course you wouldn't have been bored, because he was broadly one of us.
