Could you do your job drunk?

Is being able to capably do your job after a beer or two a good thing? When I've worked on very mentally intensive projects that require heavy analysis, I stop drinking completely, often for months, to avoid hangovers and conserve my mental capacity. I also find that life can gets a bit boring during these periods. Meanwhile, I know artists who are confident that a couple of beers can be quite helpful for their process and do not damage outputs at all. Another friend who has over 2.5m subs on YouTube confirmed that their video with the highest view count was filmed after a couple of drinks.

Out of all this, I feel the artists and content creators get the best deal

Absolutely not. If nothing else for the fact that what I do for a living isn't all that exciting - there's lots of writing - and if I have a beer or two it would absolutely kill stone dead any motivation at all. I don't even stop for a beer on a weekend if I'm doing any jobs around the house or garden, as I know that it would be game over for the day

When I first started out in this line of work, around 2002, there were a few of us that used to religiously pop to the Sir Ralph Abercrombie round the corner from work in Manchester for a lunchtime drink or 3. Friday afternoons weren't all that productive I'll be honest.

Depends on your tolerance, but let's say 'a couple of beers' so definitely starting to feel a buzz, but not properly drunk.

When I was working as a ghost for a walking tour I was drunk more than I wasn't .

It was just running into a space on a cue though so it wasn't exactly difficult.

I've worked next day drunk a lot in the past and I've managed but I don't think I could work from home and drink. It would get messy.

It depends - in the last job, I was regularly drinking in the evening while doing work, because the work was quite formulaic.

At the moment in the new job there's a broad, broad swathe of entirely disparate disciplines I need to keep abreast of, and a drink doesn't help with that when it comes to technical/logic stuff so I tend to avoid it.

IE doing upgrades in the evening (out of hours), to a stack that is built around Perl and is updated via git - all things I've never worked on before now - that and beer would not be a good match.

Talking shit confidently is deffo gonna be easier I always preferred chasing client payments on a hangover because it was easier to talk crap.

I could DJ after a few beers easily, but the needing a piss definitely comes into the equation so I'd have to stay on spirits to not have an accident, as long as I'm playing and staying in a venue or being driven it's not an issue.
The day job won't be so easy, people rely on me for technical input and I need to be able to think on my feet and be articulate so a couple of beers may be a hinderance. I don't think I've drunk at lunchtime since I was about 21 and that's a long time ago now!
