Re: HM ERII
Yeah, I don’t get it.
It’s kind of like your mates Nan who you didn’t really know but had seen a few times passing away. I get it’s a bit sad for those involved and I’m sure she was a lovely lady, but old people die and life goes on.
I’m sure a lot of people aren’t actually that bothered, they just want to be part of a big event to say they went / were there.

Even more strange, clips of it on the news and a lot of people are whist walking past at normal walking pace and not even actually looking at the casket

Re: HM ERII
I think anyone who is willingly joining the 24+ hour queue should go on a Police list

How about not having a sig at all?
Re: HM ERII
They've removed the traffic lights to stop the cyclists riding through them, obvs.
I've teh Covid so was never going to be joining the queue but probably would have given the chance (and when it was a reasonable length).
It sits oddly with me that I saw Lenin before the fall of the Berlin Wall but won't have seen the Queen and she's just up the road

Jeez, if I'm on the spectrum, the majority of this forum is way off in the distance falling off the far end of it!

I’ve always said this place is a autistic-spectrum self help groupRich B wrote: Fri Sep 16, 2022 10:01 pm Jeez, if I'm on the spectrum, the majority of this forum is way off in the distance falling off the far end of it!
Re: HM ERII
The biggest secret of mental health- Every person in the world is on the spectrum, we just have an area of the spectrum that has became classified as “normal”. In reality everyone is messed up in some way shape or form, just some people hide it better than others

Fully agree, we’re all a blubbering mess and barely holding it together during the waking hours just to get through the day
Re: HM ERII
Given the number of i.t. bods on here, and their age, for sure many were on a Spectrum.
Re: HM ERII
I spent most of my teens heavily using a Spectrum.
Weird how acceptance of mortality seems to lead to accusations of being autistic though.

We would like to think we're on the left of this picture but we're really not.

I permanently damaged my wrist due to using QAZOP on the 48k Spectrum in my teens. The mental health issues are just a bonus.Jobbo wrote: Sat Sep 17, 2022 7:14 am I spent most of my teens heavily using a Spectrum.

OK, so as someone who is actually diagnosed as autistic, (and it is very genetic; as my son is getting his diagnosis now too), there's nothing 'spectrum-like' about thinking this whole thing is a bit odd. Then again, if you can remember the nation's complete emotional collapse 25 years ago when Diana died, this reaction maybe shouldn't come as a surprise.Rich B wrote: Fri Sep 16, 2022 5:52 pm At the risk of sounding like I'm on the spectrum or something, The whole things a bit odd to me. I used to live in central Windsor and liked the tourism generated by the castle, and by default the royal family.
So, I don't dislike the actual royals, but I don't get why people are so sad. The queen did a great job (she also had massive privilege the whole of her life) for a very long time, but she can't live forever, so on with the next one. I didn't know her, it wasn't an unexpected/untimely death, so I don't see why it's particularly sad for people outside her family?
For me it's simple - the Queen was our link to every age in living memory for just about 90% of the people alive today. 'Swinging 60's? Yeah, she was Queen then too, Iraq wars 1 and 2? Yeah, still the same Queen, IRA bombing the Tory conference in Brighton? Yeah - same Queen at that time'. She's literally the definition of a constant.

We went to London to pay our respects and soak up some of the atmosphere.
I have never seen crowds like it but all in all, everyone was calm and in good spirits . The police and volunteers were doing a great job for the most part but oddly spread out.
For example, there was no crowd people on the corner by Winston Churchill’s statue and it ground to a halt with no-one able to go forward or backwards for about 10 or 15 mins.
Then, in Great Scotland Yard, 5 together doing nothing.
