Re: HM ERII
His eyes looked a little red I thought. I am glad he didn't cry though, that would have seriously undermined the whole message.
Re: HM ERII
Yeah, I was impressed he kept it together. Likely not the first take.
I don't have much respect for the monarchy but I've got sympathies for the family, etc.

Oof, that's one those articles you'd think they'd not have put up on the pidgin site (that I had forgotten existed)

Truss is likely pushing through all kinds of political abominations right as we speak. It’s a fantastic day for bad news.Broccers wrote: Fri Sep 09, 2022 8:44 pm DId nothing else happen in the world today I wonder? How many days will we have this rolling coverage?
Regarding the colonial legacy stuff, QEII presided over the most prolific period of de-colonialisation that we’ve ever seen. She was literally a decoloniser.

Yeah this. We need concrete plans on energy not rolling coverage of bereavement.Gavster wrote: Fri Sep 09, 2022 8:52 pmTruss is likely pushing through all kinds of political abominations right as we speak. Imagine finding out the Queen has shuffled off by following the British Kebab Awards.
Re: HM ERII
The British Kebab Awards one popped up in my timeline. No, I don’t follow them.
The Peppa Pig one is from a book, Peppa Meets The Queen. That’s the page where they jump 8n muddy puddles. I bought it in Windsor Castle.

Bank holiday for the funeral, Monday 19th
I don't think being a bank holiday is a requirement of a national day of mourning, but they've made it one anyway.

Re: HM ERII
That new meme of Truss apparently trying to remember how to walk when meeting Charles is beyond parody - there's an episode of The Thick of It where Nicola Murray is trying to work out how to walk ahead of laying a wreath on Remembrance Day.
Cheers,
Mike.

You can't come out with something like that and not provide a link.
Oh, aside, obviously Charles won't pay inheretance tax on the wealth he's just come into....

It's quite bad timing that we're having a couple of days' holiday in Edinburgh at the moment...

We went in to Edinburgh last night and it was incredible as well as being insanely busy. The amount of people queuing in the Meadows was indescribable - if you know the layout of the Meadows, to see nearly every single pathway full was something else.DaveE wrote: Sun Sep 11, 2022 5:18 pm It's quite bad timing that we're having a couple of days' holiday in Edinburgh at the moment...
We grabbed some food near the Royal Mile and just spent a couple of hours walking round. On the way back to the car at about 10 they were saying it you joined the end of the queue you should be at the Cathedral by 6 or 7 in the morning, so we called it a night and headed home. I had to drop the car off this morning so got up a bit earlier and went in to St Giles on the way. Even having been in there before for Christmas carols with the kids, the spectacle and majesty of it all was pretty amazing, humbling and affecting too.
Glad I made the effort to go in today and I think Mrs Mike is going to take our girl to see them heading to the airport later.
Cheers,
Mike.

Re: HM ERII
My wife is taking the MIL into London for her birthday on Sunday and they had several royal things lined up including a tour of the Jubilee carriages at Buck Palace and afternoon Tea at Kensington Palace. The tour is understandably cancelled so I think they are going to lay some flowers or queue to pay respects. They can go on my behalf, not sure I want to drag myself and kids up there.
Saw some footage of a some scummy lad on the Royal Mile mouthing off at the cortège, nice to see that he was hauled off by a couple of scotsmen and then dragged away by the plod. It was suggested he might have been yelling at Andrew, whether or not it's true it's not the time for it.
