Caught up with ST Strange New Worlds and Discovery while I was on holiday last week.

Really liked Strange New Worlds, way more light hearted than Discovery and I liked how they tied it into the original series. Discovery was more of a mixed bag, still felt satisfying at the end though.

Started Halo but not convinced, I'm not sure that the franchise was right for the story direction they've taken it. Master Chief doesn't need a traumatic origin story. Probably going to finish the series and see how it goes because I like Pablo Schreiber.

Nearly finished Sandman and really liking it, one of those shows where the main character casting is the weakest link. Not convinced about Jenna Coleman as the present day Constantine either. Not for any gender swap reasons, just don't think she's right for the character. The rest of it's great though.

I have just been alerted to the slightly dubious sounding "Old Enough" now on Netflix.

Long-standing Japanese entertainment show that they've apparently now started subtitling for export : "Children go on errands by themselves for the very first time as a camera crew follows along. They shop, go to markets, visit shrines and talk to shopkeepers."

I've only seen epidode1 (about 8mins long) so I am no expert, but this one made strangely compelling viewing :? : a boy of 2yrs 9months sent on a 1km walk (including a busy road crossing) to a shop to purchase some items. Loads of cameras and staff associated with the show lined up to keep a close eye on things....

As yet undetermined number of TigerMums out of 10.

Lancaster - on Sky Documentaries

Really good documentary with interviews with crew, both air and ground, from the War. The footage of the old girl herself is what sets this apart though. Filmed with what I presume is a Drone, you get some views of it in the air from brilliant angles.

There are only 2 left airworthy - one in Canada and one here. So when you see one in the air, you're seeing "it" and not "one" - that's rather a sad thought given what's happened to the Last Vulcan

10 out of 10 IMO

There were lots of complaints about no opening title sequence so I guess it was done in a rush.

Nah, Ep 1 was a deliberate cold open, and you can't design a CGI intro sequence in a week.
This was absolutely how it was always planned.

I've just restarted GoT and after only a few episodes I'm both reminded of how brilliant it was, but also how dogshit that final season was.
Cheers,

Mike.

yeah, they introduced the GoT music slowly over the first episode, it was very much designed this way.

The scenes on the beach in the opening scene were being filmed when we were down in Cornwall last year - Holywell beach. All the bits of shipwreck set were all on numbered and on trailers ready to be set out. It was cool seeing "our beach" on tv!

E2 was ok, but of a set up episode imo...

Finished Breaking Bad, ended up really liking it for the most part but by the end I really didn’t like any of the characters so didn’t care much that they all met their demise - they were all scumbags. I will say that I’ve never cared for the Tag Monaco much until the scene with White counting down 2 minutes - excellent bit of advertising.
8 snapped phones out of 10 (I wish they’d stopped doing that)

Watched El Camino this evening - finished up the story nicely but I guess I’d have liked more. I don’t think it was as good or clever as the original series and Todd doubling in size destroyed the continuity

Can start on Better Call Saul now which I’m looking forward to as I enjoyed him.
How about not having a sig at all?

I watched the Terminal List on Amazon, if you like Navy SEAL revenge story with light conspiracy, it’s ok - Chris Pratt is as watchable as always and it’s just on the right side of silly throughout.
Spoiler
However, I did spend the majority of the season hoping they wouldn’t go with the most obvious twist in the history of twists, to the point where I hoped the twist was that they weren’t doing the obvious twist…

They did the obvious twist.

I watched it, and as someone who is a bit familiar with LOTR (but no fanboy) I found it quite engaging. Obviously good production values etc.

Curious to see where it goes.

perhaps not for the LOTR naive.

The Sandman (Netflix)

Great story line and visually stunning. Just the tonic needed in a sea of TV dross.

Well worth a watch.

Adventure Time one of the most relentlessly creative, anarchic and entertaining bits of "children's" TV I've ever seen. Spent the last year and a bit watching a couple of the ten minute episodes every evening with the kids and now there's an bizarre, chaotic and very amusing hole left in our schedule.

Suitable for Ages 7-Infinite.

As a potential replacement to A-T I went back to Red Dwarf and boy is it a lot slower to start than I'd remembered. Might have to wait a few years though as Rimmer's sex pest jokes probably aren't suitable for the younger Roblette just yet.
