UK Metric vs Imperial - have your say
UK Metric vs Imperial - have your say
We've talked about this topic just recently, but the UK government are actually doing a "consultation" on this right now.... inputs close 26-Aug....
Some might suggest the survey appears rather pro-imperial, as options are generally "would you like imperial measurements only, or imperial and metric?" with no option for "I would like metric only". But there is at least a free text entry box for most.

I saw a genuine petition to bring back pre-decimalisation currency the other day: https://petition.parliament.uk/archived/petitions/24054
Utterly ridiculous.
Utterly ridiculous.
Re: UK Metric vs Imperial - have your say
They can't even be bothered to put a bit of imagination into their deadcatting
"If everything seems under control, you're just not going fast enough"
Re: UK Metric vs Imperial - have your say
I did point out the leading questions in their survey.
Re: UK Metric vs Imperial - have your say
What a fucking waste of everyones time and money.
The question shouldn't be "should be go imperial again?" but "should we go full metric and join the 21st century?".

There just shouldn't be a question, let's be honest. Leave it alone and maybe try and start actually governing.
Re: UK Metric vs Imperial - have your say
Metric all the way (*)
Just back from Ireland and I did like the slightly higher Speed Limits (120 kph on the motorway so 75 mph - NSL is 110 or 68 mph etc). Litres per 100 KM's or whatever will take some getting used to but small price to pay for normalcy.
(*) - except Golf - I can't' be dealing with Metres on Golf Courses

Those questions are awful! I stopped halfway because there wasn't any question that I could answer how I wanted.
Re: UK Metric vs Imperial - have your say
Fucking hell, that's up there with the worst surveys I've ever seen. That must have been done by a placement student or something.mik wrote: ↑Wed Aug 24, 2022 8:31 am We've talked about this topic just recently, but the UK government are actually doing a "consultation" on this right now.... inputs close 26-Aug....

Such a deliberate distraction, just a shame people don't learn to stop engaging in this crap.

I’ll fess up and say that I don’t even know if the UK road markers as you approach junctions/roundabouts are in metres or yards
Just know that you should break when you’re on the 100 one

How about not having a sig at all?

Yards. All UK road markers and signage is imperial. Hence why going full metric is just as retarded as going back to being more imperial.
What we have may be idiosyncratic, but it works. Leave it alone and concentrate on everything else that's utterly fvcked and in desperate need of fixing.
As Beany says, it's just yet another dead cat.

Re: UK Metric vs Imperial - have your say
I think the current system strikes a good balance between metric and imperial- most people can understand measures somehow, like tape measures in mm and inches. I use both interchangeably
In other words why the fuck are we having this discussion? Just leave it the fuck alone

Re: UK Metric vs Imperial - have your say
Yeah, pretty much. I have a good idea in yards how far I hit each club - 3/4, full, step on it etc.
I can convert but I’m really lazy

Re: UK Metric vs Imperial - have your say
I filled this in and basically said that it was a stupid waste of time. Only 3 countries in the world use Imperial and I had no wish for us to become the fourth.
If you get all wobbly-lipped about the opinion of Internet strangers, maybe it's time to take a bath with the toaster as you'll never amount to sh1t anyway.
