Bought a Jaeger LeCoultre Reverso Tribute Moon a few months ago in Hong Kong. The retail price is significantly cheaper than here in the UK and I got a further big discount, this is from one of HK's biggest jewellers, it was too good not to pull the trigger. Better half got me a Zenith El Primero Original 1969 for my 40th. None of that oversized real estate broker bollocks, just a classic 38mm chronograph with a leather strap.

Patrick, Alex, those are both beautiful. That JLC in particular is a wonderful thing, and I think the 1969 is my favourite Zenith of the bunch. No nonsense, pure class.

Nice, and I can confirm, it looks approximately 1 million times better on that proper leather strap than it would do on some nylon spackerstrap.

By crikey, that is rather beautiful. I'm no watch person, so my opinion counts for zilch around here, but that is really really lovely.

They’re dress watches, of course they wouldn’t look good on a NATO. Just like you wouldn’t wear a pair of Vans to a black tie event.

The sensible thing is to wear your posh shoes but change out the laces to military laces and do them up Nato style so that when you give the enemy a kick you don’t rip one and have your shoe go flying.

Amusingly, my Grandad showed me once the the "master roll" technique of rolling up shirt sleeves (apparently it's what he was taught in the Army when in Burma).

And I've used it ever since.

It gives a far nicer looking result and they don't unroll like the way most people roll up shirt sleeves.

I also learned a neat trick when tying double knots in shoe laces that lets you grab either "end" and just pull to undo the whole knot - it's super simple and really handy with kids (where you don't want the knots coming undone but you also don't want to have to unpick a double knot when you want the shoes/boots off).

Some people just enjoy complicating things to make them a “thing”.

I worked with a guy who came in one day with an iron burn on his collar. I said that I ironed the back of my collars so that couldn’t happen and he told me I was doing it wrong because in the cadets he’d been told to iron the front.

I left it there.
