Done last month but I'm not sure I've actually driven it more than a couple of miles since then ! It definitely boosts harder. I can't really report any more than that at the moment. The two real tests of doing motorway runs, or towing the Compact, or doing motorway runs towing the Compact haven't been needed yet. Hence I've not bothered doing a write-up.

It was a mobile guy who did it, he has a very good reputation on the Vito owners group, and was a nice guy to deal with. It turned out he's a Porsche / BMW guy so we had a few things to talk about He has an M5 & a Cayman.

A couple of q's about the 730 because I'm not familiar with the spec; the "Charging" display, is it a MEV or is just the alternator on the overrun, and would it have had a freewheeling/coasting gearbox at that age? Either way, 64mpg is an excellent result. It would have been nice to see the result of a cruise-control-at-the-speed-limit return to compare.

Sorry, missed this. It’s not even a mild hybrid; the charging is the disconnecting alternator being reconnected to top up the battery. I’m sure it would have coasting.

Good point about cruise control; I might do a copycat trip to work at 62mph using the speed limiter in my car to see if I can get to 60+mpg. I’ve always thought BMWs eke out just a bit more economy, and 4wd is always going to hinder me. Current tank average is 49.5ish mpg after driving solely in E mode; done 361 miles with remaining range of 420 showing.

After being spammed on FB by Lanoguard and speaking to an actual person who has used it I bought some and treated the underside of the mx5. Very easy to use, I gave the underside a quick jetwash and after it had dried applied the Lanoguard with the supplied pump spray head. It goes on shiny but apparently dries to a satin finish. The only downside at the moment is that it bizarrely stinks of cow shit. Depending on the wind direction the local farm can honk a bit normally so the neighbours shouldn't notice

I’m tempted to give it a go too.

How runny is it? Could I get away with using something like a paraffin gun or even a cheap spray gun with my compressor?

Should be no problem as it’s really thin.

Quite difficult to get a photo now the car is back on its wheels but you can see that it is drying to a satin finish. The black finish is the Mazda paint, Lanoguard is almost clear.

Fcking hell - I'm not overly sensitive about carrying crap in the car....but even I'm sitting here thinking you'll be trying to vacuum bits of wood out of the carpet fibres and nooks of the boot for years!

It’s not too bad as I use a pretty hefty shop vac to clean the cars. I used to take my racing pigeons with me on long trips to race back home and they really made a mess as their cage had a fine wood chip bedding, which is how I ended up with said hefty shop vac.

Finished off the coating of the outriggers on the TVR this weekend with Dynax. Be interesting to see what lasts longer.

I should have put paper down as my drive now has 2 black partial oblongs on it from the drips., thought I could wash it away, nope but at least the truck covers it up.

Lanoguard recommended a yearly re-application, not sure if others need that?

Without fail, if it costs and goes hard, unless it is absolutely perfect the water will get behind it and it’ll just rust without being visible.

The surprising prices there are that the Vantage and 996 are so cheap considering their performance. I guess they are both on classic limited mileage policies though and the Cayenne, Vito and Mini's all on regular daily sort of deals?
