Too much sh*t happening.
Got a call from my sister on Tuesday, my dad's in intensive care with a massive infection of some kind. I fly home as quickly as I can to see him and help my sister. Turns out he's got necrotising fascitis in his leg and he is being pumped full of every drug known to man to stabilise his blood pressure, combat the infection and a heap of other things. He's now in an induced coma and will eventually go in for hyperbaric treatment. He's had three rounds of surgery with more to come. It is frankly a f*cked up situation.
And for extra icing on the cake I've just tested positive for coronavirus. So I'm stuck at my sister's friends' house for the next five days at least (they're away) in a house with no broadband or TV.
F*ck.
I can't go to the hospital or help out in any way. I might as well be on the moon for all the good I can do from here. Also means I'll miss my eldest's birthday party. Double f*ck.

Sending best wishes.
I had the same when my dad was in last Christmas and we were in lockdown or tiers? I cant remember which.
Had to drop him at Papworth Hospital 200 miles away, say goodbye, and come home and wait to hear from the hospital for updates.
It's awful not being there and not knowing what's going on, fingers crossed for good news for you.

Re: Too much sh*t happening.
Thank you all.
Positive update! They didn't find any more dead tissue during surgery and they've stabilised his blood pressure, so they can proceed to hyperbaric treatment. He's still in a coma, but they're optimistic that things are improving. Big sigh of relief.
Middle one has tested positive for COVID, so will get likely miss out on the birthday party. He's very upset. So that's not so good. And I'm getting very guilty that my wife has to deal with all this on her own while I'm lying in bed here.

Fucking hell. At least it sounds like things are slowly improving on the major front.
Fingers crossed things move in a more positive direction where they can. Obviously you're fucked for the next few days and birthday shenanigans are cocked up, but hopefully yer dad takes to the treatment well.

Phew, that's a good Papa DJ update.
Get well Family DJ, however long it takes. With luck you'll all be clear of Covid at the same time, maybe a postponed birthday party together.
I can understand your sense of guilt but none of it is by choice or in any way of your doing. Don't beat yourself up too much about it (easier said than done).
All the best.

What a pile of crap, sending best wishes to you and your family
Re: Too much sh*t happening.
That's horrible news DJ, that kind of infection can have a very long recovery and he'll possibly need plenty of support.
Fingers crossed for you guys.

Re: Too much sh*t happening.
More good news. His vitals are improving, infection numbers down, less medicine needed to keep his blood pressure up, and he's completed his hyperbaric treatment. Assuming a surgical check of the leg has a positive outcome, they're thinking that they'll bring him out of the coma tomorrow.
Definitely feels good. My sisters and I have had some very heavy "what if" conversations, but luckily we're in agreement based on what dad has told us. Hopefully we won't need to make those decisions for a while yet.
I'm still testing positive, as is the middle one. I'm flying back on Tuesday, so my in-laws are watching him from the garden and he's been comforted by/placated with a new Lego set.
