(Kinda silly) IOM TT Poll
(Kinda silly) IOM TT Poll
We’re upto 5 deaths again this year - at the point of typing this. The latest being a father and son sidecar combo. Which is awful.
There aren’t many events left (*) where death seems to be such a highly possible outcome, and this is accepted/tolerated/not sure of the right word to use. I am certain however that this reality is better understood by every one of the competitors than anyone outside of the event.
* it’s kinda silly to single out the TT when there are other road races, but it is the “flagship” event. There are other sports where death is a possibility too.

Re: (Kinda silly) IOM TT Poll
Frankly it should be banned, it's an event where you expect to hear about deaths each year.
Re: (Kinda silly) IOM TT Poll
@Zonda_ then you should vote accordingly
Re: (Kinda silly) IOM TT Poll
Make it like the Nurburgring touristfarting. Barriers all the way and £10 to do a lap in your road car for the rest of the year
How about not having a sig at all?

Re: (Kinda silly) IOM TT Poll
It is difficult really, because on the one hand they know what they're doing and the risks involved, but on the other hand it seems unnecessarily dangerous.
I don't like the concept or execution, but as long as the people living along the route have been consulted and the event provides sufficient liability cover, then I'm not really bothered. Same should go for all types of events that carry significant risks.

It's more than slightly dangerous! But the competitors know it so it's their choice.
Re: (Kinda silly) IOM TT Poll
If the competitors want change then it should be considered, but it's not really for anyone else to judge. They know the risks, they love the event, they are in control of how fast they go, and it's an amazing spectacle for the rest of us.
Re: (Kinda silly) IOM TT Poll
Americans say the same about guns.
Re: (Kinda silly) IOM TT Poll
But your average 21 year old with a vendetta can't rock up to the TT with a bike and race team in tow.
I'm always surprised there are no regular spectator deaths, as they stand on the edge or apex of corners
At the end of the day, no-one is being forced to race or spectate. As soon as either number dwindles because of safety, then they'll change it.

No one is forced to race and everyone knows the risks so leave it as is.
Gwaredd hit on a good point. I think there would be more appetite for change if spectators were getting hurt. It was the spectator deaths that really put the nails in the coffin for group B.

An absolute unit
Re: (Kinda silly) IOM TT Poll
The TT isn’t even a big prize money thing, I doubt any beyond the podium even cover their costs. I think I remember seeing a majority racing are privateers,
they do it for the kudos.
The IoM likes the attention and tourism, there’s always riders willing to race so can’t see it changing any time soon.
Have the best medical care on standby, stop spectators doing stupid things, and let the racers get on with it.

44teeths boothy did the NW200 then the TT for the first time this year - they get them to learn the course but newbs are always more at risk than anyone else. He crashed and knackered both legs.
Noone forces you to enter or go fast, its entirely your choice.

Re: (Kinda silly) IOM TT Poll
Just chiming in to point out the obvious, and already stated. It's about man/woman challenging themselves. The minute we try to stop that, what's the point?
I.O.M Gov and organisers work very hard to ensure the risks are mitigated where possible, but this is a unique environment for racing, and speeds are frankly ridiculous these days, so there's always going to be issues. Every death is saddening, but they wanted to be there.. what gives you the right to say they can't?

It might be because it's 2am but having the posts about F1 drives rejecting a $24M salary cap alongside the how much death in IOM TT is ok is shorting out my brain.
I wouldn't change it, but I think I'm a little angry at myself for saying so.

Re: (Kinda silly) IOM TT Poll
Well that's a quite ridiculous comparison.
Re: (Kinda silly) IOM TT Poll
Just show Tony Pond’s lap in a Rover 827 Vitesse each year rather than running the races.
