A pint

Post by mik »

I see people talking about this again and getting angery.

I drink a pint when I go to a pub. Invariably yummy.

I don’t have any love for imperial measurements though, so I couldn’t really give a monkeys whether I am instead sold a glass containing 500ml (for about 10% less monies please) or whether they want to sell me a “568ml” instead. They could call that a “large”, a “draught”, a “snookuns” - it doesn’t really bother me. :?

It must be such a good news story, they keep repeating it. Boris has already claimed the return of the crown symbol on pint glasses, and the return of pounds and ounces as a key achievement a few months ago: https://www.theguardian.com/politics/20 ... it-success - and it's been a story regularly over the last 3 years.

I guess they think it's a popular thing, but it can only be achieved once - they shouldn't be milking it

Ho ho!

It's a distraction tactic for the hard of thinking. That's it. Nothing more, nothing less.

I've never really used the imperial measurements outside of the few areas they're still widely used (MPH / pints / height etc).

Metric was what I was taught at school, so although I can workout roughly what some things are, things like Fahrenheit makes no sense to me. I really don't see the point in this potential change. We'd be in good company though, U.S, Liberia and Myanmar are apparently the only countries still using imperial measurements.

This is just another dead cat added to the mountain but this is just to appeal to all the old, bitter, scared flag shaggers.

In my daily life I use metric (mm) for accuracy, imperial (inches) for rough. Weights I understand stones and pounds to tell me how fat I am, but fruit etc I have no clue what a pound or an ounce looks like

They should just let shops use what they want to appeal to their target audience.

I buy fruit and veg and sweets in imperial and anything I want to be accurate I use metric.

It’s a non issue in every way.

Now, I’ll need 2 pand o spuds, a half kilo block of cheddar and a nob of cheese for a nice jacket tatty.

This is not a standard size. I suspect some people might use a large nob whereas some poor souls might only have a small knob.

Much was made in the Times yesterday about Champagne becomming available once more in pint bottles (with the obligatory reference to Churchill's thoughts on the subject).

Champagne, I am fairly certain, is made within the EU.

As a continent dweller, I can confirm that the pint is the correct measure for beer.

Don't tell the Germans I said that.

Nothing surprises me from this government anymore and nothing will change my mind that we're all being pranked by Armando Iannucci in some new reality tv version of Thick of It.
Cheers,
