This idea of Gun "Control" is a fallacy too -
The emotion is appropriate. His solution isn’t.

Even if you deploy a 100% effective assessment process (not likely) it will be valid for that moment only. People change. People suffer life changing events. People suffer mental illness. Billy-Bob safe today does not mean Billy-Bob safe tomorrow. There is only one solution. But stoopid constitutional rights, and it’s also a huge national industry - and the capitalist model doesn’t easily accept elimination of money-streams.

It's crazy, because it's so obvious that when there is a violent threat, the most effective solution is to disarm the attackers.

I've seen the argument that if your bank guns for normies, only criminals will have guns.

Yes. But mass shooters teens to be fairly normal (if mentally ill/highly aggrieved) people who generally aren't going to walk up to a gang member and try to buy a gun from them. Because they'd get shot.

And criminals already have guns. So it can literally only improve things.

Seemingly most mass shooters either access their guns legally or access them via a relative who got the legally.

Criminals will have unregistered illegal firearms with no serial numbers etc. but then how did they get those guns? Probably stolen from someone who got them legally.

Reduce legal guns, reduce all guns

Yes, criminals having guns is a given, I mean, every country in the world has criminals with firearms. That's not gonna change, might was well accept it as a universal truth. Like you say, it's the civvies with guns that are shooting up schools.

Next time America wants to 'create peace' in another country we should tell them that won't work and that they should just get bigger weapons instead

I always thought that gun ownership was normalised over there, everyone has a gun that they keep in their house but it rarely comes out. Just another household appliance.

But my experience (mainly Atlanta) is they fucking love guns and talking about them. Most people seemed to have an average of 3 or 4 of all types in the house.

And they seem terrified that a home invasion can happen at any time, guns kept in strategic positions around the house depending on where the perp comes in!

I imagine it varies hugely on location/demographic/etc... most yanks I have ever spoken to about guns are pretty much the same as us - against them in any capacity.

But then, the Americans I have spoken to are usually over here - so they have a passport, education and are aware that there is life outside the USA.

We often confuse the opinions of people who live on the east and west coasts as being reflective of Americans in general

From the outside looking in it gets even stranger if you involve the “pro life” lot.

Abortions made illegal, sending women back into alleyway clinics performing abortions with wire coat hangers

Yet those children you do have are so easily erased from existence as soon as some mentally unstable person decides enough is enough and gets his supermarket shopping, picks up an ar15 and a bulletproof vest and goes on a killing spree

Not relevant to this case as it involved a rifle, but in Texas you don’t need a license to walk around with a handgun. Mental

Apparently there were armed guards at the school.

The professionally trained Good Guys With A Gun didn't stop him.

So as the usual excuse had failed, current talking points among the US right are to have single points of entry, multiple armed guards and lockdown during school hours.

So basically they want to turn US schools - primary schools, where ten year olds go - into high security prisons.

Dribbling fucking imbeciles.

As I posted on Faceybook earlier, America is lost.

If Sandy Hook and this can't change their stupid ways then nothing will.

I've had to become pretty mentally immune to events like this, especially since becoming a parent. Americans won't change. This won't be the last of these events. They will always happen, and I can't go on being upset by the absurdity of the situation where the right to own guns is more important than the right of 9 and 10 year olds to live without being shot. It's pathetic. Even now you're seeing the old 'mental health' argument about the shooter being trotted out. Silly cunts. They just don't get it. Are they too thick or too arrogant?

Either way America is too far gone and I pity the innocent lives of those kids who barely knew life, snuffed out in an instant by a society that is stuck in the 18th century. Fuck those responsible for this situation. All of them. Fuck them to hell.

I had this convo last night with a good mate in upstate New York. One of the most placid people I know and a borderline wreck after yesterday, as since Sandy Hook he's had a young daughter. And in the same sentence he says he carries a pistol 24/7 for protection. Very happy to hand it over should guns vanish off the streets and very pro-removal of guns, but at the same time - not yet, not right now, because without it I'm not safe.

It's fucking mental. All of it.

The local police force haven't exactly covered themselves in glory over this most recent shooting. Serious questions need to be asked about their response.

Would have been interested to see if the limited gun control in some states has had time to change trends. Although all those graphs essentially prove that the US is hardest hit, with few gun regulations. I must admit, I have kind of zoned out as they just happen again and again.

It beggars belief that the will is not there but as others have said, it s a culture thing. I remember club shooters being all upset when the bans came in here post Dunblane but reading the accounts of that at the time and even thinking about it now puts a lump in my throat so the idea that a society looks at tragedy and whoops "more guns" just WTAF.
