Was lovely and clear on our way down too, similar average and 40.5mpg. Bet next week will be rammed with the bank holiday visitors.

Police are pulling the cctv from above the cash point I was parked next to but even if they find who did it I doubt I’ll be getting any money out of them.

My late Dad's 3rd wife twatted someones car in Morrisons car park in an E34 520i. The owner of the other car got the CCTV footage from the store and the police knocked on her door and nicked her for driving like a twat and fucking off afterwards (they have an official name for it, apparently). Big fine and points. She got away without a ban because Dad had been required to give his licence to Her Majesty after being found with too little blood in his alcohol stream while driving and expressing his displeasure towards the arresting officer with his fists.

Amazingly, I don't miss either of them.

Basts!

How do you even do that with the lines at different levels? Has the arch been dented inwards?

No fortunately not dented. Something seems to have been deliberately dragged by it - maybe a bike.

It was parked next to a small tree so someone went though a 12 inch gap intentionally to damage it. Will be interested to see the footage.

Car was parked here

So a while ago, I tried to remove my rear wheel to be able to replace the wheel speed sensor and snapped the top off the nut. They're only supposed to be done up to 95Nm but I suspect that they were previously done up to FT++ or Dugga dugga dugga dugga dugga dugga.

Most of the Jaguar forums seem to say the solution is "take it to the dealer" but one user said use a 22mm hole saw with the centre drill bit taken out.

Image

I was really surprised by how easy it was to drill. These are not hard nuts. Also, I was surprised by how easy the remainder of the nut was to take off with mole grips.

Image

With that done, the sensor was pleasantly easy to replace and now I don't have to cycle the power to get the traction, stability, cruise and handbrake to work. Also, my rear end is disturbingly crusty.

Yep unfortunately so. Just surface damage really but across two panels is annoying as it will increase the repair cost /difficulty.

The sad thing is this stuff just grinds you down after a while. I got back to the car and my reaction was more the parent cliche ‘I’m not angry I’m just disappointed’ than an explosion of rage… I suppose being with my 6 year old means you have to suppress the swearing somewhat.

Maybe I’m just getting close to middle age - I vividly remember when I lived in angel and came home to a chippie with his portable workbench on the pavement covering my Boxster in wood shavings from a circular saw and I bollocked him loudly enough he probably still has tinnitus 15 years later. He was shocked at how beserk I went like covering someone’s car in wood shavings from a foot away was a perfectly normal thing to do

I had a go at an old bloke for repeatedly banging his car door against mine, I felt a bit bad about it after as no damage was done.

If they were, they wouldn't break so easily.......

I imagine the design is OK, just let down by crappy material.

So far I've broken 2 nuts and a stud in 7k miles. That's pretty crappy.

Bummer. At least it's not dented !

A competent person may salvage that by wet sanding and polishing it.

Sorry to hear that GG.. hope the cctv results in a suitable punishment for the arsehole!

In other news, I can now tell you about my partner’s hybrid Evoque. So she had the car for 15 months and in that period it was back at the dealership for three months in total with the hybrid system failing multiple times per week. Several parts were replaced but the vehicle never filled her with confidence and always had the same multiple failures within a week of being returned. She put in a claim to reject the vehicle and after a month or so it’s gone! The chap who came to inspect the vehicle took it out for a drive and, although the hybrid system was working normally, there were another 37 defects! JLR refunded all the payments made including the deposit bar three months, so she basically got the car for free for a year and 15000 miles! Trying to find another vehicle now is proving challenging though; new cars are very, very limited.

It’s put me off buying any of their products as three of my friends have now handed back the keys on new vehicles within the first year. Hope the new reliability improves soon or they’ll end up as a foot note on UK car manufacturers wiki page.
Cheers,

Ian

They’ve been the same since the 1980s but still continue to trade! My dad had an XJS from new which had a squeaky diff when collecting direct from the factory in 1989. Numerous faults led him to swapping it for a Range Rover after four months, which had a dashboard they seemingly forgot to bolt down….
It’s a shame that LR can’t build a consistent product. The Hybrids seem particularly variable, and that’s the only model you can currently buy as an Evoque and Disco Sport.
As an alternative view, other than the stored destination memory on the sat nav failing, our Discovery Sport was completely fault free for 3 1/2 years/36500 miles.

A friend is head of fleet for the AA, they have a contract with JLR. he said that the 2.0 Diesel engine is so unreliable that they have circa 1500 courtesy cars on loan at any one time, its not unusual for the courtesy cars to fail which results in some very irate drivers.

I recently test drove an ipace which broke down outside the dealership, complete power failure and I almost felt sorry for the salesman

This gem of an engine was the topic of conversation over the weekend by various mechanics while we were racing. I wonder if it's an old block design improved and improved to keep up with modern demands and now is at the end of it's abilities with a total new design needed.

Friends have an iPace and it has spent a lot of time being repeatedly fixed. Compare that to our Zoe that's been pretty much faultless.
