The 240 going was an experiment to see if one car less would actually work by using the 3 series in the main with Lotus on backup. This has mainly worked but i feel like im putting unnecessary mileage on the Elise just doing the menial commuting jobs. Plus...Its not particularly comfy and i dont like parking it anywhere i cant see it!

Many thoughts are being considered.

Option 1 - Buying a shitter to keep the milage off the Elise. Cheap Audi TT would fit the bill on this for around £3k

Option 2 - Turn the Elise into a 981 boxster or Cayman S. These would take miles easier and id be a bit less paranoid on parking it for fear of it getting nicked.

Option 1 & 2 also lends itself to upgrading the 3 series at some point as it wouldn't require additional finance. Replacing that with something wearing a towbar would also be very handy for racecar stuff.

Option 2 would limit the trackday use. But..Now were doing the racing stuff this might not be a massive issue.

Get a cheaper Boxster as your everyday car. Keep the Elise.

The obvious answer is to sell both cars, mortgage your house and kidneys, and put a deposit on a Purosangue with the V12.

Not that it affects the question, but is an Elise more likely to get nicked than a Boxster? I'd have thought it was the other way around.

I've done 2 or 3 at knockhill and the day at Silverstone. It was fvcking epic at Silverstone.

Or, alternatively.

That Boxster looks lovely, though I'd be worried about kerbing those alloys.
You'd also like to think that, although it's no Elise and maybe a bit too refined, a 300+bhp Boxster S should still give some fun on a track day, with the racing for more Elise-like thrills.

Mine has a load more kit as well. Bilstein Lotus supersport adjustable dampers, CL pads, AO52 tyres on the forged alloys, Track Chassis rear brace kit. TRD air intake, 2Bular Exhaust.

If you're worried about miles devaluing the car, a nice Porsche is not a good idea IMO, Porsche buyers are pretty anal about it.

Get a real cheap shed, drive that every day and then you'll really appreciate the nice cars when you drive them.

If you're worried about miles devaluing the car, a nice Porsche is not a good idea IMO, Porsche buyers are pretty anal about it.

So you're saying he should buy an oval cylindered shed of a Boxster and run it till the guts fall out, and not give a fuck about parking dings etc?

The Boxster would definitely be more comfortable for daily stuff and would take the miles "easier", but I guess the running costs for those miles would be higher on it than the Elise? Not that I know much about Elise servicing, just the cost of Porsche bits.

I get it - drive a slow car most of the time and your fast car will feel more special when you drive it.

It just doesn't work for me that's all. I rarely go out for a drive purely for pleasure, so take the opportunities when they come up. At the moment, I've been working pretty late so the drive home after the traffic has died down has become fucking great. I'd be pissed off if I was in a crappy car at that point. Then my weekends consist of family stuff or mountain biking - where something like an Elise would be useless.

Obviously everyone's circumstances are different.

I split the mundane between the TVR and L200 as well as using them both for their intended purposes. It's nice to take the TVR to work on a sunny day with the roof down and enjoy the drive on the way home (inevitably taking the long way). If funds allow the one car for it all will never satisfy so having 2 and mixing it up certainly satisfies more IMO. Adding in the aforementioned fact that when you do get in the fast car it does feel that bit more special if you've been driving something more mundane. I often see people out enjoying their nice cars when I'm in the L200 and feel a few pangs of jealousy that I'd either chosen badly or was forced to take it, but I know I'll be back in the TVR soon and enjoying the fun too.
I'll miss it this weekend for sure (and I'm bound to see a few out in their nice cars and feel a bit jealous) as it's looking nice and I'm off to a race meeting the L200 with caravan in tow, but I did 250 miles in it last Saturday and I'll be able to enjoy it next weekend too.
