Re: Drugs, (and absurd job updates)
Just caught up with this - nice work mate!
If you get all wobbly-lipped about the opinion of Internet strangers, maybe it's time to take a bath with the toaster as you'll never amount to sh1t anyway.
Re: Drugs, (and absurd job updates)
Have the new place received the references they require from the old place yet? Just in case you feel you need to go home and not return, I'd bottom that one out!
Re: Drugs, (and absurd job updates)
Yep, what have you signed?
The Evo forum really is a shadow of its former self. I remember when the internet was for the elite and now they seem to let any spastic on

Re: Drugs, (and absurd job updates)
All references sorted, contract signed, have laptop, have phone, had a chat with the MD yesterday (he was passing through town on a personal thing) - that's all fine.
As for the documentation, this is carrier level telecoms ops with extreme nuance for a guy who's never done any kind of telecoms before, not a web app running in Docker - it needs at least basic documentation before he starts.

About fvcking time sunshine!!!!
InfoTech salaries don't start with a 2. They have been extracting your piss for years. WTF do you think paid for two Lotus over the years!
Well done (YC)

Re: Drugs, (and absurd job updates)
Yeah, it's only been the last few months that that has really hit home, given that literally everyone involved in recruiting I've spoken to has asked why my salary doesn't start with a 4....
Re: Drugs, (and absurd job updates)
All of that is true but still not your problem...
although I suspect, a bit like myself, your professionalism and general all-round decency will not let you leave the new guy in the shit- so you'll produce superb documentation... and probably work extra hours to do it.
Your new place is lucky to have you
Re: Drugs, (and absurd job updates)
I don't have time to do superb documentation, so he gets what he gets
Re: Drugs, (and absurd job updates)
Stop being a doormat. It's their problem not yours.
Re: Drugs, (and absurd job updates)
maybe those dozen people need the kick you had. They're not going to close the business over anything you have or haven't done.
Re: Drugs, (and absurd job updates)
A few of them are already interviewing so maybe you're right

Print that out 4000 times, put it in a few binders, drop it on your manager's desk and walk out of the place.

Should always leave a door open. Add "PS: one (1) week's worth of documentation writing (37.5h in total) can be requested at an upfront paid cost of £10,000)."

LOL I ain't doing post-hoc work for them.
I can document the process of doing some of this stuff, but things like SIP trace analysis - I can't teach that, that's something you learn.
So that's their problem.

Sadly, new guy starting Monday so I'll be here. Otherwise that would be tempting.
100 pages of that, then at the last page
"Go to <network location> to find what you need"
