His point only goes half way. The accessibility and authenticity of people via the medium of social media has made fame more accessible, people like you and I can become well known in our own way, making the barrier to entry for ‘fame’ lower than it ever has been. It also makes famous people more accessible, you can see Billie Eilish on the loo if you want. But those A-list celebs are still completely unattainable and will always remain behind an invisible wall, despite what you see of them on social media. A dour Scotsman will never idolise celebs in the same way that many of their true fans do.

Cannot say I gave much of a shit about this story but when the hand ringing started I did raise an eyebrow at some of the things that have gone on at Oscars. The black woman who won for Gone with the wind being segregated off from the rest of the cast just for starters. Very far from the most shameful episode in their history.
