Critical Drinker (aka Nebpor) - who I don't always agree with - has quite a wise take on it.

Fair conclusion, although criticising someone for criticising Ted Cruz he's on a hiding to nothing.mr_jon wrote: Wed Mar 30, 2022 8:15 pm Critical Drinker (aka Nebpor) - who I don't always agree with - has quite a wise take on it.
Re: Will Smith (is not dead)
I thought he may well have a point (his old video character reworking of Rey was genius) time will tell, maybe celebrity deathmatch (or at least Celebrity Tsunkatse) will have to become a reality to keep people interested in them.mr_jon wrote: Wed Mar 30, 2022 8:15 pm Critical Drinker (aka Nebpor) - who I don't always agree with - has quite a wise take on it.

Does that actually mean anything?
Re: Will Smith (is not dead)
I don't know, I guess maybe he can't attend any more or be eligible for a nomination

Re: Will Smith (is not dead)
His point only goes half way. The accessibility and authenticity of people via the medium of social media has made fame more accessible, people like you and I can become well known in our own way, making the barrier to entry for ‘fame’ lower than it ever has been. It also makes famous people more accessible, you can see Billie Eilish on the loo if you want. But those A-list celebs are still completely unattainable and will always remain behind an invisible wall, despite what you see of them on social media. A dour Scotsman will never idolise celebs in the same way that many of their true fans do.mr_jon wrote: Wed Mar 30, 2022 8:15 pm Critical Drinker (aka Nebpor) - who I don't always agree with - has quite a wise take on it.

Apparently he can’t vote but can still be nominated.. nothing too serious, especially considering the assault was in front of millions

Saw this tweet the morning after the ceremony and it seems even more accurate now:
Re: Will Smith (is not dead)
Shows how ridiculous the academy is imo.
An accused child molester can still win Oscars while actively evading the law but this situation justifies a decade long ban.

An absolute unit
Re: Will Smith (is not dead)
They didn't even send him back to West Philly
Who's the accused?ZedLeg wrote: Sat Apr 09, 2022 6:21 am Shows how ridiculous the academy is imo.

Re: Will Smith (is not dead)
Roman Polanski, I’m guessing..
Re: Will Smith (is not dead)
Yeah, they should be thanking Will Smith. Don’t they know that any publicity is good publicity?ZedLeg wrote: Sat Apr 09, 2022 6:21 am Shows how ridiculous the academy is imo.

Re: Will Smith (is not dead)
Cannot say I gave much of a shit about this story but when the hand ringing started I did raise an eyebrow at some of the things that have gone on at Oscars. The black woman who won for Gone with the wind being segregated off from the rest of the cast just for starters. Very far from the most shameful episode in their history.
