Dropped the BMW off to my mate Stephen who owns James Glen Car sales on Friday. He made a decent offer on the car which was near as damn it the Autotrader private sale valuation. I might have got a few hundred quid more privately but it just wasn't worth the hassle. The money he gave me allowed me to take £3700 equity back out of the car so it worked out pretty well.
I bought the car almost 3 years to the day - 30th March 2019 so we had a good innings with it.
I had at that point been looking at mini cooper JCW's but after driving one it left me a bit unimpressed in comparison to my then Golf R. That lead me down the route of looking at the 6 banger BMW's. Not needing the hatch practicality with already having the Touring i started looking for an M240i. My absolute must haves were LCI car, the Zf-8, Heated seats, HK sounds and ideally the bigger nav screen. KU17RPG came up at Durham BMW and after a bit of haggling a deal was done. It had all of my must haves except the bigger nav screen but it did have rear tints and a reverse camera and really low mileage.
I went down to test drive the car with my brother and my eldest lad. 4 up including the sales guy once it was warmed up i put it in sport + and the box in sport. approaching a NSL sign from a 30 limit i kicked it down and it squatted and took off like a stabbed rat. TAKE MY MONEY!
in 3 years I spent £0 on repairs. It went back to BMW on three occasions. The rear box was rattling on cold start - new back box fitted. Rear cluster failed on the indicator and a rattle. All fixed under warranty.
I replaced two sets of rears and two sets of fronts and servicing cost me £650 for the term
It was unbelievably economical - a run back from Silverstone to Edinburgh after the Walter Hayes trophy yielded a totally amazing 48 mpg.
The car was two stage corrected and ceramic coated a year or so ago after which it was absolutely immaculate. no dents, scratches or swirl marks on the paint. It remains in this condition. one small annoyance was a wheel kerbing due a a fallen over kerb that i caught and in the process burst the tyre
M240i's are rated at 340PS but this one felt much stronger that its rated figure. From watching a car throttle video around the time of the Toyota Supra launch they dyno'd a supra. The one they dyno'd put out 376 BHP which the tuner guy said was not unusual for the B58 engine and he'd never dyno'd one that only had 340PS. I never had the car dyno's but the evidence points to this being a particularly good one. It would wheel spin in 4th gear at 70 mph in the wet. When i sold it to Stephen he dropped me at the train station then drove the car back to the dealership. 10 min later i got a text from him "That's never standard...!!

After 3 years i was in the last year of the finance. The car would have to go at some point this year so I decided that this was the time when the market was reasonably strong. I have a feeling that as parts supply returns back to normal and the new car market clears the back log then the prices will start to fall as the year goes on.
Replacement - Nothing at the moment. Both Mrs A and myself are sill working from home so the fleet of the F30 318d Touring and the Elise as emergency backup should do us for at least until the end of the summer...Thats the theory...in practice then we'll just see...You lot have met me before.
ETA - Cold start sounded great
