Coronavirus
Re: Coronavirus
Mr Rev is still alive and well on The Twitter.
Re: Coronavirus
This is the funny thing, he starts these threads which seem to be for the sole purpose of him acting like a cunty troll then moans when everyone treats him like a cunty troll.Rich B wrote: Mon Feb 28, 2022 12:50 pm
I tried chatting to you about covid, you didn't seem to have any intelligent opinions (or any opinions) and just told me to do my own research.
I've never once seen him engage in good faith discussion when it comes to politics or in this thread, just goading and insults. You get what you give.

No doubt. Tell him I said hello...

He's a grand lad. Just needed space to evaluate his life.
Idiots online don't appreciate what they are doing.
Be nice lads.

yep, I'm calling you out on your silly faux anti-bullying crusade you see. This way, we can just refer you to this every time you decide you haven't got the brains to actually join a discussion and just start calling everyone names.

I've no idea what happened on here since last time I checked but in the spirit of talking about COVID for a moment, I just read a really bold stat.
NZ is if you hadn't noticed, smack back in the middle of rising up the face of our Omicron wave, 22,152 cases today. The stat I heard puts NZ above the UK at its peak per head of capita - ie once we passed 20,000 cases a day we have more Omicron cases for the size of our population than the UK did at your peak, and we're still climbing. That took a minute or two to sink in for me...
Yet we've had seven deaths since Omicron arrived late December. I can only conclude the difference there is 96% double vaxed, 79% triple vaxed. But certainly a rough few weeks ahead for us...
Meanwhile a 29 day occupation on the lawn of Parliament by the antivax/anti-mandate cunts looks like it might be ended after the Police got fed up being patient and squashed them out of their camp today. The resultant clashes and fires on the lawn of Parliament haven't done anyone any favours. The past few days they have quite literally been making tin foil hats to protect them from government radiation experiments coming from concrete bollards brought in to stop the camp growing.

Re: Coronavirus
That's tough Dave but I suppose, inevitable at some point - although those numbers are pretty stark. Is there any explanation as to where the numbers are coming from? I know borders have started to open up but there has to be a different reason surely - it can't have become that rampant overnight
Still, the mortality rate is very very low which, at the end of the day, is all that counts.

Re: Coronavirus
Have you seen how sudden the huge spike is? Literally only the last few days. Going to be another week or so before we know on effects on hospitalisations and deaths.
Hopefully it’s only spreading through healthy and vaccinated people and the vulnerable have been well protected.
I’ve noticed South Korea who were long held as a shining example of containment are now at 200k cases a day.

Re: Coronavirus
My opinion on this isn't popular here, which is to point the finger a little bit at the 'Omicron is mild' narrative that the media and Govt here are using, ultimately resulting in over 50% of the cases being in 20-30yr olds who don't see it as an issue and are out socialising as normal. Uni started here past few weeks and one of the Uni halls renowned for its partying each year had COVID parties this year.dinny_g wrote: Thu Mar 03, 2022 10:13 am That's tough Dave but I suppose, inevitable at some point - although those numbers are pretty stark. I get it in the sense that if the Govt messaging is this is still very serious, with how quickly it's spreading, they'd essentially be peddling blanket terror. Not helpful for managing any society I reckon. Hidden a few layers deep in the messaging is how it's mild for most but for some it's serious, but I think the weighting there is put largely on the people in that camp and the rest of society aren't doing much to help there, which is a shift change from the way NZ operated for the past two years where really everyone dug in and helped everyone out. There's also borderline no narrative at all about long COVID here.
Our household (mainly me) is pretty high risk for effects from it, especially with some of the things long-COVID could get stuck into, so we're pretty tense about it if I'm honest.
But yes you're right, the death rates are really pretty low which comes from the ground work done the past few years. We're expecting the peak to be in about two weeks apparently...

NZ seems to be still fixated on something that's not so bad for most people.KiwiDave wrote: Thu Mar 03, 2022 11:12 pm

Unfortunately the media create hysteria about every subject until the next crisis comes along.
I'd be more worried about old people passing away of the cold later this year than anything else. There seems little uproar thus far that the cost of living is sky rocketing.
The lack of posts on this thread for example show noone really cares any more.
PS the tourism dollar really is more important

What's the point of posting in here? We could point out that infections are rising again while the NHS are closing testing centres, but who can be bothered dealing with you?
