I have no idea if the context - but sensible head Steven thinks that a column of burning Soviet armour in the road blocks Ukrainian armed forces and civilians as much as anyone else.

So park them off the road, then strip any usable man portable weapons and ammo, *then* drop a few Molotov's down the hatch.

Any foreign boots on the ground - ANY - will give Putin another reason to step things up further. It makes it a direct NATO vs. Russia conflict. Same with no-fly zone. It’s a dismal situation. Nobody will win but Russia will be the largest loser at the end of the day. The economic sanctions sanctions although not stopping him here & now, will take decades to unwind.

Yup, the general hope/plan is that other people high up in the Russian political structure will see the shit that's going down with their economy and standing in the world, and will pull Putin aside and stick a knif...I mean, advise him to pull out and step down. Eventually, even internally, his position will become untenable.

There's only so much internal propaganda you can put out in these days where state media isn't the only place to get news, and where smartphones exist.

According to the Telegraph it has, and its advance has stalled. Makes sense as it doesn't seem to be any closer to Kyiv than yesterday.

It's also reported that UK special forces veterans are organising to go over there to help support Ukraine - in particular snipers and specialists in anti- aircraft and anti-tank weapons. I'd already heard the French Foreign Legion were over there, and I imagine there'll be plenty of others making their way there.

Pretty sure the French said that no, the foreign legion can't go there - something something technically a kind of NATO force, something something don't want to start WW3, etc.

Hitting the logistics is a smarter move. Footage of burning tanks is nice and front page-worthy but works as propoganda back home showing that those nasty Ukrainians are blowing up our proud and glorious tanks. Whereas perfectly functional tanks stranded with no fuel just make the Kremlin look like amateurs.

One other thing that’s not had much coverage - Japans’s ex-PM has urged Tokyo to consider hosting US nuclear weapons. That’s huge. Japan rather understandably has a massive taboo around nuclear weapons. For it to even be suggested is a very big deal indeed.
