The Leaf goes tomorrow so a brief end of term! 15.7k used out of a 20k allowance (Covid + battery issue) but it was good value, especially vs. now, at £262 a month on a 1+23. Nothing comes close now. Will be back to leccy once prices are sensible again.

Good
Liked the tech generally, heated seats and wheel, 360 cam and sensors (including acoustic, very useful for our busy road)
Spacious and easy to drive, a decent steer really despite the weight. Much, much, better than the Zoe was.
4.1-4.2mpkwh in the summer, 3.8 in the winter, which I thought was decent. The Zoe did better in the summer but dipped below 3 in the winter.

Bad
Traction battery shat itself at 1k and took a month to be replaced due to Covid. Did get that month's payment back obvs. Apparently a bad batch of batteries. New battery has been perfect and still showing 100% due to no rapid charging.

Meh
Didn't bother with B mode or one-pedal driving after a couple of go's. Didn't really improve efficiency, you just have to push the accelerator further down to maintain speed, uncomfortably so. Not saying it's a gimmick, I'm sure it works better in city driving, but not for us.

Cheeky
Mannheim insist upon it having 100% charge at inspection/collection, despite it being delivered with 10% or so. I know why, so their driver doesn't have a 2 hour Rich B spec toilet brake to make, but it's a bit galling when a dinosaur juice car can be given back with a few litres to get to the nearest station.

Auris has a nasty parasitic battery drain somewhere, most likely from the aftermarket head unit, so have that to sort out before I tax it (on the first, of course) and swap the insurance over.

Decided to not trust the fitters to call me and have headed up to the house anyway. Tyre definitely not inflating, do have locking wheel nut, so hopefully a simple for wheel the swap, assuming none of the wheels are fucked....

Short term though, if they hold air, that's good enough for me.
Been pushed to the evening shift for the fitters, guessing the guy on the day shift had a bad one

Not too annoyed, just not sure when to get food, given all the shops are a 40 min round trip on for for real food, and I don't really want to spend on takeaway if I can help it....
Well, I guess the evening shift is fucked too, because I ain't got shit.

Resorted to checking out the bad reviews on trust pilot, and it seems ASDA have a nasty habit of just chucking appointments at fitters with no consideration for availability.

That doesn't excuse the fitters for saying they'll be there in an hour, every two hours, since 3pm though... If you can't make the appointment, fucking say so.

I'm trying not to get so wound up by things lately, but it's hard when everyone is so utterly fucking useless.

Typically, ten minutes after posting, guy turns up.

Shane the locking wheel nuts are fucked. I didn't notice this as the one wheel I worked on last time didn't have one....

Given that the last person to work on this is also the same twat who bought the wheel nuts up so tight that I had to literally stand in a three foot breaker bar and hop on it to break them loose, I think we can put two and two together here.

So, off to research how the fuck to get locking wheel nuts removed.

It never fucking ends.

Surprised blokie in the tyre van didn't have something to get the wheel off. It's not exactly an uncommon thing. Maybe he was just a bit grumpy about working at >10pm.

He looked about twelve in his defense.

The nuts themselves are pretty corroded so I think he didn't want to make them worse.

Neighbour used a pretty decent mobile mechanic to get that bearing hub off, I might try him after I've had a go myself tomorrow.

How much does a full charge cost?

I knew that was coming  The charge last night was 6 quid to bring back to 100%. It's more the disparity.

A Tesla owner on TikTok was showing that Testla recharge costs are really high right now, have yours gone up in line with the recent power utility price rises?

Arval wanted min 75% charge on the Ioniq, I was generous and stopped it at 80% as I knew he was driving back to London. Cheeky is right though, it arrived with about 25%.

Niro came with about 60+% as the delivery driver wasn't a d!CK

Currently the Niro showing 3.4kw/m avg, but I've not had chance to do a decent run yet.

Here's the video, this guy's Tesla charging with 20kWh which will give 80 miles costs £8, which is about the same cost as an economic ICE car.

We're getting 3.5 as a cumulative total over 500 miles in two weeks (do EVs get run in and produce better figures later? :?). I did a motorway/50mph a-road trip on Monday and it was showing 4.3 for the 15 miles on the way back. Fairly hilly but only doing 67mph on national speed limits. Range would be 274 miles 100% to 0 with that efficiency.

Our home rate is now 18p per kWh. We fixed back in July last year...seemed expensive at the time (up from 12p) but in retrospect it was a lucky move. Only a 12 month deal though so I'm prepared for a fisting on the next one. We've never gone the cheap night rate smart meter jobbie as we often both work from home, have two kids so washer & dishwasher are always on in the day, etc. When we first had the Zoe back in late 2017 it was so cheap it felt like cheating, less so now. I think Simon B? worked it out and said that leccy would have to be 45p per kWh to reach parity with an economical diesel? The few times we charged the Leaf away from home it's been on freebie 7kW chargers. Rapid public charging is getting extremely expensive and, you're right, the numbers don't add up in that scenario, even with petrol/diesel being as pricey as it is.

Oh, edited to say, zero probs found by Mannheim, so that's something.

Cheers,
Jon

Ah, now I see it! 45mpg is possible, but I think that would be sitting at 56mph with the trucks. Too late now I know!

I'm off up to Skipton for a job next week, then over to Whitby for a long weekend with the wife. No lairy driving with her in the car, so I'll see what I can eek out of mine. If it cracks 40mpg, I'll be amazed.
Well, the weekend was lovely and I drove nicely and on the drive up to Skipton, over to Morcombe for lunch, then onto Peterlee to see some friends and finally down to Whitby, I set a new record of 43.3mpg.

Sadly on the way home, storm Franklin was a fierce headwind all the way back and it dropped to 40.9mpg, otherwise it may have finally cracked 45mpg. This was all on BP ultimate, which it seems to like. It's more expensive, but returns better mpg, so I guess it evens out. I noticed it self cleans its DPF a lot less on it too when running on this.

Still not great though. The Alhambra would have done 60+ mpg if I drove like that. However, it doesn't spoil the car for me, so I don't care one way or t'other. Now I'm back home, I expect it will drop back to its 33 - 37mpg average, especially in the cold weather.
Cheers.

Called the tyre fitters up and they can collect the car, take it to their workshop, get the nuts off, replace the tyres etc. I'm not paying (work is) so let's see how that goes.

Supposed to be getting collected at 1pm

*Taps watch*

This'll be interesting.

Edit: Now 'after 2-3pm' - that doesn't even make sense.

 Oh dear, I shall have to see how I get on. The X-Trail gets high 40's and that is pretty big & heavy. I suppose, after all, it is a 2.2L even if it is in a small car. Just that I'm surprised it's not better with the long gearing. My commute/school run is a good 50-60mph plod where diesel's like to be, so I'm still holding some hope. Do you go with the car's computer figures, or do a fill-to-fill?

Good progress with the car today, drain problems sorted, air filter done, battery conditioned, those chuffin' crap cross-head plastic rivets replaced. Pair of premium Mintex coated discs arrived, £35 delivered for the pair, not bad considering they are not small eco discs. That's the best bit about running an old car, loads of new old stock kicking around motor factors available for pennies.

Cheers,
Jon
