My 406 did that when the temp sensor shat its pants as it thought it was hot, it screwed the mixture up and wouldn't start from cold. Was fine when I unplugged the sensor as it just used basic failsafe ecu settings.Sundayjumper wrote: Tue Dec 21, 2021 6:19 pm @integrale_evo - E36 fweind![]()
I went to start the Compact today and no-go. It spins over healthily but won't fire. In addition the temp gauge shoots right up to the max as soon as you turn on the ignition. I assume a dodgy sensor. Will that affect the starting ? A failsafe to stop you starting the engine when it's overheated ?
It's not been driven in at least a couple of months and the weather has been pants so I'd not be surprised if something has got damp.
And plug in a code reader you say ? Funny story. When I did the coil-on-plug conversion it involved fiddling with the wiring to the OBC socket in the engine bay so I removed it and tucked the wires away somewhere inaccessible telling myself I'd get back to it. I didn't get back to it![]()

Honestly, not sure. I think they have a 4 pin sensor which does both gauge and ecu, so yeah, if the gauge is playing up there’s a good chance the sensor is toastand won’t start the car.Sundayjumper wrote: Tue Dec 21, 2021 6:19 pm @integrale_evo - E36 fweind![]()

I can’t remember which way they’re wired, try removing the plug from it which may make it think it’s fully cold.
Crank but no start is often a crank sensor, which is low down on the inlet side of the block, think I had to take the battery try out to get an arm down to it.

The rears on the TT were evenly worn in 7/8000 miles.

Re: Your fleet running reports
32 mpg from Leeds to London door to door seems ok. Central London being almost entirely 20mph these days is a pain though
Oh well.

Re: Your fleet running reports
Are you even allowed to drive in London with the ULEZ, Bean?
Re: Your fleet running reports
Good that Beanz.
Its weird what large engined old polluters you can drive in london.
Our MINI was in for its MOT yesterday - as expected it FAILED
Repair immediately (major defects):
Nearside Front Shock absorbers has a serious fluid leak (5.3.2 (b))
Nearside Stop lamp(s) not working (4.3.1 (a) (ii))
Bonnet cannot be secured in the closed position (3.1 (b) (i))
And a load of advs.
What surprised me most was the shocker - my mate Baz showed it me when I collected it - it basically had no pressure in it and was completely fucked. Thing is, I did notice how rubbish it was chasing a bmw over the tops at RAF Menwith Hill Harrogate (great roads btw) but just thought it was tired on 90k miles.
When I win the lotto maybe a set of coilovers.
It's been a cheap car - fixing all that lot, a few bits sorting and an oil change was 215 quid. Not bad but then pub rates

Yeah, it's just congestion charge that I get whacked by, bizarrely enough. I checked it a few months ago, but rechecked now just in case

Yeah, petrol cars are fine. The Aston was cheaper to take into London than the 740d.
As is the Galaxie, with its 6.4 uncatalysed litres.

Nice. Think I might have been pinged by a speed camera around Grantham (typically, in one of maybe four times I've given it a squirt, and not just sat at 70 on cruise control) so suppose I'll be watching the post for the next month.
Re: Your fleet running reports
I need to check my mail box more frequently, been driving in London without road tax since the start of the month. Anyway just worked out it's gone up 72% in 10 years on the Mito. Didn't realise inflation was that bad. They keep saying it's just a few percent each year

How about not having a sig at all?
Re: Your fleet running reports
Sorry, been a while...
Audi before (dealer pic)

Audi now

I was thinking about doing the wheels gloss black and maybe some other bits, but decided it's fine as it is. Money better spent on a remap!

The M3 looks cracking in that red. Most of them seem to be silver which just looks a bit too ordinary.

I still remember the very first E46 M3 I ever saw was that colour. That looks immaculate! Needs some bigger wheels though!

First one I ever saw was a red one on the cover of evo.
I’d love a red one for the collection but wouldn’t want to pay what a decent one seems to cost these days

The Suzuki is an odd one unless you're a tradesman ? Handy thing to have though
Looks like my old E46, Imola Red with Imola Red
Needs the wheels done in the correct shadow chrome, it used to cost a fortune to get them redone hence why they often ended up 5 wheel silver.

Re: Your fleet running reports
Thanks guys. I originally wanted black or grey with a red interior for an E46, but this one came up on eBay in Aberdeen about 7 years ago with 39k on it. I was watching it at £9k with a few days to run and thought no way I'll be able to afford that but with an hour to go it was still at £9k... an hour later it was mine for £9.5k, booked a one way flight and then told the Mrs.
I don't know why the wheels look so silver in that photo, they are shadow chrome done by Lepsons but need doing again. It was on 19s when I bought it but I prefer the way it drives on 18s. It's had a pre-emptive RACP repair by Redish in Bristol (it was just beginning to crack) and I think could do with the VANOS seals replacing at some point. It just ticked over 50k this year and was 19 in November... I would like to take it back to Munich next November!
Suzuki is 660cc, 4wd with low range, 5-speed, no locking diff which was an option. It's obviously had a hard life working in Japan as the interior is full of dusty soil, I have the previous owner's address so I will send him a photo to surprise him one day
We have a lot of building work to do coming up so it will get a workout.
Here is the Ion, sorry iOn
which I know you can't wait to see, I'm sure everyone will roll their eyes and not get it but it is brilliant as an urban commuter. Correct wheel drive, low CoG, amazing packaging...

I really shouldn't mod it but the Smart 16" wheels will fit like this photo which I love... BUT I don't think I can go low enough for the full effect as the battery hangs under the car and I don't fancy getting beached on speed bumps!

Oh and while we're on the subject of modded Mitsubshi i's... check this out https://www.autoevolution.com/news/russ ... 34084.html especially the video at about 5:50... beyond full send!
