"discount" tyre places

Post by Gavin »

I am sure when Blackcircles was a new company they offered a decent saving over the local places. When I was looking for rear tyres for the E I shopped around as they are the largest and most expensive I have ever bought (18s so probably a lot smaller than many on here) and what I found was that my local garage who look after my cars undercut Blackcircles by about a tenner per tyre I think it was for Merc approved P Zeros.

Is that just a one off as the last few tyres I have bought the difference has been a pound or two one way or the other so have just bought through the garage. Has BC etc. forced the prices down across the board?

Camskill still seems cheap as long as you can fit them yourself or know someone who will do it for a couple of beers.

BlackCircles were never the cheapest. I used them recently as they were doing a deal on Michelin, but otherwise I have been Camskill - only for the last decade.

I always use Blackcircle, mytyres or Kwik-fit the most. Just depends who has the tyres I want at a reasonable price.

MyTyres have always been pricey. Black circles just saved a load on TT tyres.

I’ve never been able to get close to an online place for tyres by going to loads of garages. They are quite happy to fit them so I think they must be making a decent amount from fitting.

MyTyres must be competitive for winter or all season tyres as I've had a fair few pairs off them over the last 10 years.

I assumed that was their thing as they are German or possibly Polish ?

Black circles were miles cheaper than anywhere else for the Goodyear all seasons I recently bought.

The last two sets of Michelin’s, one came from black circles, the other a local F1 auto centre.

I find you have to shop around a bit, some places are much cheaper for some brands than others, there doesn’t seem to be any set rule.

I used to use tyreleader all the time, but they don’t seem to have anywhere near the variety they once did and prices aren’t anything special either.
Cheers, Harry
