Yeah, I'm pretty sure it was that if the pedestrian has already started crossing, then the pedestrian has right of way.

I'm absolutely sure running over someone in the middle of the road is incorrect.

Just not worth it.
An attitude cultiivated by the likes of that cunt Jeremy Vine. And it's certainly one I don't agree with. If you want cyclists to be treated like other vehicular road users, by identifying they are entiitled and encouraged to occupy the lane as a vehicle would (which makes perfect sense to me), then this seems to rather suggest that cyclists can be treated exceptionally.

Tbf though there have long been adverts cautioning drivers to check mirrors before turning, albeit it used to be to watch out for motoryclists overtaking right-turners.

Yeah, you know the logical car to cyclist query now:

"Well if you're comfortable undertaking me through a gap that size, why do you want more than that when I'm overtaking you?"

Highway Code
The Highway Code doesn't say this though.

"watch out for pedestrians crossing a road into which you are turning. If they have started to cross they have priority, so give way"

https://www.gov.uk/guidance/the-highway ... 03#rule170
They can't assert their priority until they're in the road anyway, so effectively no change. Lot of fuss about nothing.

The graphic is saying if someone is standing waiting you need to give way. I'm not going to search to see if its incorrect but anyone here is welcome to prove the DM as making up random crap. Its usually the case.

If they keep standing waiting, they won't have priority because they're not in the road. As I say, no change. Do you generally drive into people you see stepping out?

Could be an interesting one for the insurance scammers. Wait for a car to turn in, run into the door, fake neck injury, claim £xxxx. They had right of way!

You will start to see more of this sort of shifting of priority at minor junctions. Here's a recent installation in Stockport

That's a side road off a very busy mainline route to the south of Stockport

Funnily enough, though virtually lawless, the roads of Vietnam work in this way, with the same rule of hierarchy. As a pedestrian, you just walk across traffic and it's up to them to miss you, bikes pull out of side roads without even bothering to look and buses need to avoid them.

I only saw 2 presumably fatal crashes in the 2 weeks I was there, so it clearly works.

I'd like to make it clear that any overtaking cyclist damaging the side of my car when I am clearly signalling and in the process of turning right will be reversed over.

Crossing a multi carriageway road in Vietnam is a true test of faith, if you pause or try to second guess any of the motorists, it messes everything up, you have to assume they've all seen you and they assume that you will continue walking at your current pace.

TBH I prefer pelican crossings

I hope they aren't as distracted by mobile phones in Vietnam as drivers are over here.

Rich B wrote: Fri Dec 17, 2021 1:22 pm Reading more - this comment worries me far more than those points:

WTF?

That is just going to give shit cyclists even more of a superiority complex.

Jesus that would be even worse, a quick google says the following amount of road fatalities per 100k population

Vietnam 26.4
UK 2.8

I posted a video on Facebook about how to cross the road in Vietnam (this was HCMC, not in the sticks). Trick is to step out and maintain a steady walking pace so traffic (usually scooters/mopeds and Vinasun cabs) can filter around you. Stop start frogger style and it'll all end rather badly for you.
If you get all wobbly-lipped about the opinion of Internet strangers, maybe it's time to take a bath with the toaster as you'll never amount to sh1t anyway.

Around my town most drivers don't even bother indicating to turn off a main road. As a jogger/pedestrian you have to constantly second-guess and judge it from the speed and attitude of the vehicle.
