Hmm, good idea.Sundayjumper wrote: Thu Dec 09, 2021 1:04 pmBecker + DAB module ? The Beckers have an easily accessible line-in connection. And unless prices have gone silly recently they’re a lot less than £250.integrale_evo wrote: Thu Dec 09, 2021 11:16 am Almost makes a £250 bmw business CD player and an add on dab module make sense.
And as a bonus you get a rudimentary nav facility too. Handy backup in case your phone dies or has no signal.
Edit: more than I expected, but still less than £250:

I’ve never been a fan of Becker because they’re always oem-ish but still look odd. Mainly because on e36s they sit in a row of buttons above the climate control. However the more basic compact dash is already more of a mishmash so wouldn’t look too out of place.

Hmm, that could work, wonder how hard it is to dechrome the knob
Just found the Bremen on Amazon for £320, still a lot but also a decent chunk cheaper than most places. Would look great in the e30 eventually…
Further update, I’m back in an e36, I cannot leave work without scraping on the speed bump at the exit. All is well with the world

Look at the faceplate! That’s awful.
Re: Your fleet running reports
That could only be improved if it had a jumping dolphin on the front like the old pioneer ones

Yeah, I had to replace the battery when I got the car and that fixed loads of niggles.tim wrote: Wed Dec 08, 2021 11:47 pmThose wheel speed sensors get covered in crap. I cleaned mine when this same issue appeared and it went away. They also throw the same issue if the battery charge is a bit low. Apparently the XJs are very sensitive to battery charge levels.Jimmy Choo wrote: Mon Dec 06, 2021 3:33 pm In the cold last week the jag deciced that the traction and stability control was an optional extra that I didn't pay for ... Which is what I mean really, loads of modern headunits still use ancient segmented displays which look crap next to the shiny buttons they cover them in.

Most of my Becker collection, including the lesser-known Sony & JVC versions. I quite like the JVC one.
I also have a Cascade which I *think* is in the 996 right now, 35 miles away and I’m not doing a special trip down there just for a photo.

What I'd really like is a Becker BE4769, made for BMW with exactly the right shade of orange, but they're not easy to come by.

Those rounded corner square buttons instantly reminded me of my E30s!

I've not opened it up to look for broken wires but I've got the Yeti booked in for a new driver's door loom. The main dealer gave me a part number. My local garage took that and gave me a much more reasonable hourly labour rate, so they'll get the job. Plus they'll do their usual collect and deliver back home.
Will get its MOT done at the same time as that's due in early Jan.
MOT passed with just a note about the front brake pads being low - woo-hoo!
I asked to keep the removed loom. So here it is.
- definitely knackered. - glad to see that the new one has the U-shaped boot that allows more flex. Will keep this in mind if we start seeing passenger side issues.
Left over crest; tightens.

Much like the car itself, the e36 compact dash is an odd mix of e30 and full fat e36Rich B wrote: Fri Dec 10, 2021 2:07 pm Those rounded corner square buttons instantly reminded me of my E30s!

Re: Your fleet running reports
You don't look at the faceplate when listening to the fire...but if you do, the display colour is muchly adjustable so it'll match the BMW lighting.
Sunday; I didn't know you had a Mexico
Re: Your fleet running reports
The Pioneer dolphin animation! There's a blast from the past. I do miss upgrading car audio... not saying you can't do it anymore, but it's a far cry from a single DIN swap, amp in the boot and popping door cards off to swap the speakers these daysintegrale_evo wrote: Fri Dec 10, 2021 12:24 pmI still have my approx 2001 vintage pioneer oled screen head unit somewhereV8Granite wrote: Fri Dec 10, 2021 9:10 am That could only be improved if it had a jumping dolphin on the front like the old pioneer ones![]()

I can’t remember if mine did the dolphins, I know it had an f1 car one and some stereo level gauges.
I have a kenwood mask unit I put in my mums metro soon after passing my test which would probably be from 1998, but the ribbon cable broke and I couldn’t ever get it to work properly after that

Good news: I’m now the kind of person that parks across two spaces. It’s really too stressful trying to get into a narrow space and open the doors.
Bad news: aged vinyl + cold weather = not a happy roof.
