Since then it’s been a case of waiting for bits to be done and buying parts.
I’d decided on a mk3 16v gearbox rather than a tdi gearbox as I felt the ratios would better suit a ko3 equipped car rather than a tdi gearbox which was much longer geared. Now that I’ve gone hybrid turbo this may have been the wrong choice but I’ve alresdy invested in to having a lsd fitted to my box so I’m stuck with it for now.
With a bit of research I managed to pick up a timing belt kit with a 16v tensioner and the required spacer for £56, compared to the timing belt kit usually required for a 20vT that is £120 and you end up binning half of it and still need a spacer and tensioner. Also bought a VR6 clutch as it fits and can handle the power, I’ve previosuly run a supercharged vr6 with 292bhp so I know a genuine Sachs is well up to the job.
I’ve also been researching baffled sumps and came across a kit on one of the fb groups, me rather stupidly thought I was buying plates ready to weld in, turns out that it was just a paper template that we had to cut out and weld in, in hindsight it was stupidly cheap for baffled sump plates but redicilously expensive for a sheet of paper. While the sump was off we stuck a new oil pump and pick up pipe in there.
