Off yes. For 'On' use a torque wrench and do the job properly.
A quick blip (literally just a blip) with the impact wrench to spin the bolts into place then finish off with a torque wrench.
100% this.

It all depends on the Ugga dugs, some uggas are more potent than other uggas so a few ugga duggas from a small Ugga dugga may be less than 1 Ugga dugga from a big Ugga dugga.

When I removed my bottom pulley bolt on the Defender it required only 1 Ugga before coming loose.

In conclusion, all ugga duggas are not equal.

I've checked the one I'm looking at and it says 3 speed variable, ugga, Ugga and UGGA, so should be able to avoid over torquing.

I have to be very careful with the wheel nuts on the 928 as they're magnesium and too much ugga will destroy them and they're £70 a corner.

@JonMad Not sure if you bought something, but this is a good offer, with 2x3Ah batteries.

I also have a “£10 off if you spend > £100” voucher. Can PM you the code if you are interested.

Realised having bought this kit (notionally from my wife, as a Christmas present to me) that it's an impact driver not an impact wrench.

Still, rated to 178nm. My wheel nuts are 120nm ish (80-odd lb ft). Gave it a go with a 1/4" hex to 1/2" square adapter I had already.
Dugga dugga. No sweat 8-)
And puts them back on as well with just a quick go with the manual torque wrench to finish them off to the right setting.

Will put it back in the box now so my wife can wrap it up
Though I've already taken one of the batteries out and the charger as I've bought this bad boy

Now that I'm about to swap our wheels for the winter set, I'm going to order an impact wrench to fit my existing Makita CXT batteries. About £44 delivered, which is fine; but do I choose the 3/8" or 1/2" drive version? My existing wheelnut sockets are all 1/2" to go with the 1/2" drive torque wrench, but I should probably buy a set of deep impact sockets anyway. Is there any significant reason to choose 3/8" over 1/2"?

Slightly unrelated but I needed a 4" hole drilling in my garage wall to run the pipe for the tumble drier through. My tradie mate turns up with his 54v De Walt drill and diamond tip bit and it went through it like butter.

IT was pretty impressive

I can’t think of any good reason to get 3/8” over 1/2”

Agreed. I have some 3/8" sockets but they get used far far less than the 1/4 & 1/2 stuff.

After checking my various socket sets it seems most of the useful ones are 1/2” anyway so I’ve gone for that. 3/8” does look small when you consider the torque.

Thought I'd update this after changing both cars to their winter wheels at the weekend. My Makita drill and impact driver are CXT, i.e. the 12v ones (which works fine for me, they're smaller and lighter than the 18v tools, perfect for a bit of DIY). So I bought the CXT impact wrench and went for the cheaper option, 140Nm version which apparently can manage double that as 'nut busting torque'. So I was somewhat surprised that it needed assistance getting the wheelnuts loosened - they're torqued to 120Nm on the car. I'm not actually that bothered because there's no risk of me overtightening the nuts but it does seem not to be achieving its specs.

Still well worth getting because it was so much quicker to remove and do up 40 wheelnuts than doing it by hand. I got cramp in my hand last year doing it

It will be stiction, I’ve no idea if that is a real technical term I’ve just always known it as that. You could need loads more than the tightening torque to undo something. It’s why you never loosen something to see what torque it was tightened at. You need to mark the fixing and re-tighten it to get that figure.

I struggled to undo a 350nm pulley bolt with a 1500nm impact gun.

My old cheapo cordless drill packed in last week and as I had a charger and DeWalt 1/4" Driver, trying not to overthink it I thought I'd buy a bare version of what Mik bought in first post.

Ended up buying a DCD796 which is a slightly higher spec combi drill new off eBay for £62 with a tstak hard case. Arrived yesterday with a 5ah battery attached 😎

I put off small jobs like hanging hooks and curtain poles as I thought these cordless drills struggle with brick/concrete/tile. Turns out I just had a shit one 😂

It makes drilling holes in brick as easy as drilling cheese.
