Guess the repair bill
Placeholder
Incident: me in the 740d, stationary at traffic lights. Driver of a Ford Ka has brainfart and drives into the back of me.
Damage: superficially hardly anything, but the 7 is a big car, I was stationary with my foot firmly on the brake and the little Ka was able to make my car jump forwards and trigger the engine cutout, and give me a sore neck for good measure. It’s more than a mere parking bump.

Re: Guess the repair bill
Oh, that’s not good. Hope your neck is ok. Any pics of the damage? Did the Ka take the worst of it? Assume they are ok too.
My guess: £excess. Or, £1429.56 for a bumper and a few clips.

Left over crest; tightens.

New bumper, boot, both rear quarters, lights, rear subframe and chassis on a jig with a cherry on top.
Five figures.

Re: Guess the repair bill
£2712 for a new bumper (the real one behind the plastic) and to repair that crack you haven’t spotted yet.

Here’s a pic, it’s very boring, there’s just a few scratches in the middle, but as mik says the real bumper is underneath. The outer is designed to spring back into shape again which is exactly what it’s done.
Beneath that there's something like this which is quite possibly damaged:
If that's mangled then it has done its job and needs replacing.

Boot lid looks ok (?) - any pics taken from underneath?
I can definitely point at an X-ray of your C-spine in court and claim you have trauma in a Dr Nick Riviera style if you wanna go that way.

Re: Guess the repair bill
When the same happened to my dad in the X5 the repair bill was £5000 just for the bodyshop repair. The physical paint portion of the quote was silly expensive.
How about not having a sig at all?

Any pics of the damage to the Ka?
Who cares how much the 740 costs to repair; just make sure you’re ok.

Re: Guess the repair bill
New boot, bumper, parking sensors, exhaust and stuff under there. Repair company, as always, will rinse the insurer for stuff that doesn't need doing or could be repairedSundayjumper wrote: ↑Sat Oct 30, 2021 6:42 pm Here’s a pic, it’s very boring, there’s just a few scratches in the middle, but as mik says the real bumper is underneath. Re: Guess the repair bill
Superficially similarly minimal although the cover for the recovery point came slightly loose. You can just see it in that pic. I guess it's a credit to the folk that design these impact-absorbing systems.
I was trying to keep it light-hearted Plus the repair bill will be an actual figure and we can determine a winner. A thread titled "Guess the longstanding emotional & psychological trauma I have suffered" would be far too dark. For most of us. Beany might get a bit aroused. Best if I don't.

Re: Guess the repair bill
That would probably write it off ! Out of interest I just ran a valuation though WBAC and it was a fraction over £8k.

Hope you're OK SJ, not a nice experience.
An excuse for a new car potentially though, you can get one in silver!

Re: Guess the repair bill
Get a whiplash claim in to cover your inevitable insurance hike! The other half got £1400 for being reversed into when she was stationary.

Re: Guess the repair bill
I have dashcam footage thank goodness - although only forward facing - but it does show that I was stationary when the impact happened.
Re: Guess the repair bill
I got 3500 for whiplash a few years after an accident on the way to my 21st birthday. Was no joke of a claim either.
Car looks alright, probably needs a new boot floor being a bmw

When my Mondeo was written off in a head-on accident back in 2016 I didn't really feel the pain until a few days later. Make sure you get yourself checked out just to be sure, if that happens.
I got a few rounds of physio (on their insurance) to get the full range of movement back in my neck over the course of a few weeks.
