Happy thread
Happy thread
My kids are doing amazing in school, a rocky period last year for my eldest but he has grown and now I couldn’t be prouder of both of them.
New pups doing well.
The wife still tolerates me.
Pushed by forward for early retirement with my own plans instead or relying on just my job.
This years garden was great, more tomatoes, spring onions, courgettes etc than we could eat ourselves. Loads of bees because of all the Lavendar in the garden and the ducks are happy.
Plus the other day I had an early morning drive in the transit which made me feel like Ari Vatanen.
Now, what good stuff is going on for everyone ?

Good stuff there V8G, it's lovely when kids do well.
I'm moving back to Australia next month and will be able to give my mum a hug for the first time in five years.
and writing that down has just felt like a punch right in the feels.

Carved an evil
last night over a few nice beers with my girlfriend who is awesome for putting up with my capricious narcissism
and then we had a lay-in with breakfast in bed before a courier delivered a bunch of box-set vinyls which I'm going to flip on eBay for
so yes, loads of good stuff happening right now
there's a good chance I might start doing some work any moment now as well

How's that going? This year is the first time that I've put financial planning in place to work towards early retirement, rather than seek ego-stroking adulation for whatever work I'm doingV8Granite wrote: Fri Oct 29, 2021 11:52 am

I financially mullered myself by doing the car and saving in 18 months. I’m 60% towards being able to pay the rest of my mortgage off but I’ve invested it all in shares and crypto currency’s instead. Currently I’m 45% up in my investments overall but mentally it’s hard work.Gavster wrote: Fri Oct 29, 2021 12:29 pmHow's that going? Re: Happy thread
Sounds cool because you've got to enjoy the process of getting there and the car must be part of that

Absolutely can't complain about my lot at the moment, but I'm always an optimistic sort anyway

Thanks, yes, perfect time to try and shift a family around the world during a global shipping crisis and pandemic...Jobbo wrote: Fri Oct 29, 2021 12:46 pmMoving, Rob? Good luck with it.RobYob wrote: Fri Oct 29, 2021 12:04 pm Good stuff there V8G, it's lovely when kids do well.

A new job opportunity came up outside of Automotive back in Aus so couldn't pass that up. It will be a somewhat melancholy departure, will genuinely miss this green and pleasant land drenched in history and all our friends.
There's a huge list of stuff I've left undone; LeMans, Northcoast 500, IoM TT, Ireland, Spa 24, GW Revival and meeting more of the Evo forums gang.
On the other and the last decade I've been fortunate to get to Nurburgring 24, FoS, Last flight of XH558, RIAT, had a curry with you and seen more of the UK and Europe than I could ever hope to on a brief holiday.
Re: Happy thread
I'm having KFC for a late lunch, and that's about as much as I can add this week
Re: Happy thread
Rob, when we visit Oz, I shall look forward to a repeat of the curry
Likely to be a good few years away, mind!

Yesterday I finally obtained a court order for equal residence of my kids, which is pretty fucking monumental after 8 years of... well stuff that doesn't belong in public on the internet. Sufficed to say I will have a drink later.
You settle up, I'll go get the Jag.
Re: Happy thread
Good stuff Tim
My chum/neighbour is doing something similar at the moment and, well, suffice to say I don't envy either of you. Sounds bloody awful.

Loads of exciting stuff or at least good stuff
New job started this week. in the civil service mainly WFH so finally have a half decent pension.
Car is running well and is by far the nicest I have ever owned.
I have been running again the last few weeks and although my legs ached a bit, my fucked hip has been fine (touch wood)
I have signed up for a run bike run off roady thing in January at Kielder which should be a laugh.
Kids are doing well at school.
House stuff almost done, just new fancy bathroom needing painted and tidied a bit.

I think new job is just about sorted - a 50/50 split between clinical work (which I do enjoy but would prefer to do less of) and research (which I really miss and want to get back to). After trying to scrape funding together from various different pots I sat down with the head of postgraduate academic medical training for Cambridge who entirely unexpectedly announced that she could fund the whole thing!
Oh and a paper I submitted to a journal seems to only need minor corrections and it will go forward for publication.
Meanwhile I have been planning escapes with the Mrs. We have our beady eye on an off season break to a luxury hotel at the end of Jan.
So…. None of these are things that have happened yet I grant you. But that doesn’t stop me feeling happy about them!
