Mrs mik’s bestie popped round yesterday with their Springer Spaniel pup who is exactly 1 week younger than our new Land Shark.
They generally rolled about for a couple of hours deciding who was higher in the pack order (the pups as opposed to Mrs mik and her bestie) - much to the panic of Mrs mik’s mate (it is their first dog) as she couldn’t be fully convinced that the biting and snarling was 99% posturing. Ours came out on top, but the little Springer got a good few “ouch that one was sore - take this” returns that kept ours in check. We deployed Treats and toys to bring a few breaks in between the bouts, but they were both keen to get back to it until their energy went.
Our old choccie lab was far more interested in playing with the springer and generally jumped around like a goofy idiot joining in. Which was all good until the pups went for a very short walk and the older one collapsed.

Which hasn’t happened before.
Couldn’t stand - back legs gone, and trying to rotate round to her left constantly.

Rushed her to the emergency vet - we weren’t sure she would make it to be honest. I thought she was having a stroke or a heart attack.
Vet was very unsure also - we agreed to let them try some serious pain killers to rule out something physical, but they told us we might need to make a decision….
Within the hour - buoyed by morphine - she was back on her feet (and looking for dinner). We left her at the reassuringly expensive dog hotel overnight and collected her today. A bit woozy and wobbly but back to fight another day….. whilst we work out what is going on.
The youngster has put on about 3kg since we picked her up 2 weeks ago and is already looking much more like a youth than a pup.
