Harry’s Garage
Re: Harry’s Garage
I shall immediately send HarryM an invitation to the small wheel appreciation society.
Oui, je suis un motard.
Re: Harry’s Garage
Cars of that era rely so much on the sidewalk for suspension it would be horrible on lower profile tyres I bet. It’s very old style suspension and I bet the suspension alone weighs a hell of a lot.

Re: Harry’s Garage
Looks bloody daft. Irrespective of suspension loads etc. if a car is styled for small rims, it generally looks better on small rims. Which is why new cars get stupid oversized rims for absolutely no reason beyond black skivvy wanker styling.
Re: Harry’s Garage
Yep difficult one. I just don't like those wheels. They look to fussy a design.
The retropower one looks spot on imo.

I've changed my mind on the XJ paint. Bit bile-esque.

The Roma drive is worth watching just for the Nav Voice
Re: Harry’s Garage
Paw patrol navigation on Waze is a nightmare in places like Milton Keynes, it’s the same bloody phrase again and again.
Brian Blessed on TomTom is far more fun.

I think this is why supercars have long first gears, the final set up is done in MK.

Good lord, the sound of this alone is worth the price..

Re: Harry’s Garage
He's clearly having a whale of a time in it isn't he
Will Tuthill sell me a similar engine to put in something much cheaper
Re: Harry’s Garage
I can't afford the engine, never mind something to put it in
Re: Harry’s Garage
Agreed. What a lovely noise!! And there's a lot to be said for ragging something hard but not doing stupid speeds. I like that a lot. Just need to find £400k or maybe £100k for the motor and trying to squeeze it into the MX5
Re: Harry’s Garage
That 1965 911 is absolutely stunning.
I saw a late 60s one last week and it just looked tiny by today's standards but perfectly proportioned.
Has HM said anything about the F40 that's been lurking in some of his stuff recently? I'm guessing he's bound to have been asked on one of the many social media channels?

Re: Harry’s Garage
That noise! Funny that a modern Porsche sounds like a more muted rather than a better version.
Re: Harry’s Garage
That 911 is lovely but the price is mental. How much is a fairly pristine original? Obviously this is objectively improved; it’s faster, handles better, gear change is better - all things you pay handsomely for - but is it actually worth the extra over a standard car?
Re: Harry’s Garage
A-ha so it’s the Revival pace car - thought it looked familiar! I remember saying at the time that of all the cars on track the one I’d take home is the one not racing
As to Jobbo’s question - it’s been a while since I looked but early LHD long hoods could still be had for around £100k, maybe a smidge under — with mint RHDs going for nearly double that (depending on model). I agree - although I’m sure it ‘cost’ 400k in man hours to build, I’d happily take an original with that engine and the suspension mods and leave all of the aesthetic frippery that probably adds 100k to the price. That said I’d much rather have that than a fake 964 backdate (cough, Singer)
ETA - here you go Simon - https://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C1387622. £73k + 90 for the engine and 30 for the other drivetrain and suspension mods. I just saved you 200k and its not in baby blue.

Re: Harry’s Garage
I think I’d struggle to put a £90k engine in a £73k car just to get 30bhp more
Edit: the 2.2 has rather less than 170bhp but I still don’t think £90k represents good value.
